jeeps out of cities or out of urban environments because they will have had an easier life than a rural one. A jeep that’s been carrying golf clubs will be more desirable than one that’s been carrying calves, so we buy as many used 4x4s as we can from Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick etc. but will source them from all over. We also take trade-ins but we will insist on seeing the trade-in before we give a price on it. “We service everything we sell and Martin and Michael we will look after the vehicle for its Gleeson run the business lifetime. When we’re selling a jeep, we will stand over it with a parts and service warranty of three-to-twelve months, depending on age, mileage etc. We have a recently-updated modern workshop here and all work is done to the highest standards.” All in all, Mark says he is “happy enough” with how the business is going: “Two-thousand-and-nine was a tough year because we got caught with some stock from 2008 but since then things have been okay. I wouldn’t say we are recession-proof – we are IRISH TRUCKER & LIGHT COMMERCIALS

feeling the pinch – but we have a good business model and we are twice as careful with what vehicles we buy. We make sure the vehicles are right, that the prices are right, and we keep our overheads down.” As for the future, Mark Lane concludes: “We installed a new concrete yard and sales forecourt in 2006 and we timed that well. We have good facilities and a good product. Our goal now is to sustain the business and to look after our customers, old and new.”
