Mathis (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.) is the new-elected president the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter which is celebrating its Centennial Year (100 years) nationally. On June 3, 1966, eleven visionary women chartered the Las Vegas Alumnae Chapter. Today, more than 215 active Las Vegas members continue the tradition of promoting scholarships, service and social action within the community as well as nationally and internationally. The chapter service area is Southern NevadaClark County including the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Boulder City.
The Nail Room was created and opened by owners Jenny Sayavong and Christopher Harrison offering exceptionally clean services, one-of-a-kind nail art, beverages and snacks in a classy atmosphere. With pedicure bowls that have individual liners for each service, their tools are sterilized in a dry autoclave and every file and buffer is disposed after use. The nail salon also houses a clothing boutique called Shop offering the latest fashions. Sayavong fell in love with the beauty industry at a young age, eventually working on the strip in high-end salons. Sayavong’s experience also includes doing nails on reality television shows such as “Tia and Tamera” and “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

Helina Whitney has been named inpatient director for Nathan Adelson Hospice. In this role, she actively supports and promotes the hospice’s vision, mission and overall philosophy by maintaining quality patient care through effective management and leadership. The director is both a formal leader and mentor, facilitating professional growth and maintaining standards of high performance. Previously, Whitney served as manager of education at the hospice. After previously serving as Hispanic/Latino Program manager, Nora Luna has become director of diversity and education for Nathan Adelson Hospice. In this capacity, she will continue to oversee Latino community outreach but will also coordinate new employee orientations, student rotations, implement and track continuing education training for certified nursing assistants and nurses, develop CEU (continuing education unit) workshops for nurses and social workers, and coordinate all internal professional development. Vero Strategies, a Las Vegas strategic communications company specializing in public relations, has been recognized with four awards at the Public Relations Society of America 2013 Pinnacle Awards in the categories of press conference, media tour, quick turnaround programs and public education campaign. Founder and President Veronica Meter accepted the awards during a ceremony at the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa.
Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada 2013 ATHENA International Awards was recently held to honor those at the top of their industry. Heather Allen, MD, FACP, a medical oncologist with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, was honored as the leadership recipient. Dr. Allen was selected as a recipient due to her extensive local, regional and national board appointments, recognitions and designations. Souzan El-Eid, MD, FACS, a breast surgeon with Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada and Medical Director at the Breast Care Center at Summerlin Hospital, has been recognized by HealthTap as a top breast surgeon in Nevada and as one of America’s most compassionate doctors according to PatientsChoice.org. Every month, more than 200,000 patients across the U.S. provide online feedback via PatientsChoice.org and other sites about their experiences with physicians. Sara Gabriella has launched Caramel Creative, a company that develops and produces media and entertainment content specializing in stories and information targeted for the Latino cultural experience. Gabriella is an accomplished writer, producer and TV host with 10 years of experience. Caramel Creative is partnering with established companies and professionals in the film, TV and publishing industries, has a book series planned and two TV shows in development.
