This Lima Peru tour starts at a local roastery, where they hand-pick the coffee beans daily, for an organic Peruvian coffee. You will also tour the colonial streets of the bohemian district, Barranco, home to artists, musicians and the city’s top art galleries. From here you’ll visit a traditional market in the San Isidro district to try exotic fruits and local products and learn the ancient myths and legends associated with them. Private Colca Canyon Tour We will depart at 7:30 am from Arequipa, crossing 160 Km to the town of Chivay, capital of the Province of Caylloma. At the beginning of our excursion we will enjoy the majestic views of the Misti, Chachani and PichuPichu volcanoes and then approach the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”, where our transportation will make a short stop to observe the wild Vicuñas (the most important American camel) in its natural habitat. At this point we will be around 3,400 meters above sea level. We will arrive to “Pata Wasi” (Pata=high Wasi=home) an Andean community at the opposite border of the reserve. Here you might enjoy the natural formation of rocks and the view to the backside of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. To prevent altitude sickness we will have an original Andean “Mate de Coca” drink in Sunbay at 3,800 meters above sea level.

Continuing on the road we will pass through “Tocra” over the 4,500 meter high mountains, where we will observe lakes with migrant birds and get pictures of the “Antiplano” (high plains) with its Llamas and Guanacos. Our highest point will be “Pata Pampa” (Pata=high, Pampa=land) located at 4,820 meters, where we’ll observe the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca-Hualca, Mismi (the source of the Amazon River), and the “Cordillera de Chila”. When we are getting close to the town of Chivay (3,651 meters) we will start to wonder at the spectacular multicolor view of the terraces of the Colca valley. In Chivay we will drive to our hotel and after occupying our rooms we will have time for lunch, (cost of lunch is included in program). In the afternoon we will walk to the real Indian Town of Coporaque, where we will visit its traditional main square and optionally- go on an hike to the hill of the San Antonio ruins, where we will visit a cemetery and have a wonderful view to the terraces of the Canyon (the hike takes about 1 hr.) We then proceed onto your Hotel at the base of the Colca Canyon.

Each of the 45 rooms have a wonderful view towards the valley and are built around the gardens and courtyards which make up the hotel. The style is rustic, with thatched roofs and some of them have adobe walls. An ecological heating system which uses the geothermal energy has been implemented in the hotel. The bathrooms are supplied with hot water from solar heaters. All 27 standard rooms have small terraces where one can sit in the sunshine and admire the unique local Andean landscape. There are 15 quadruple rooms fitted with two beds up in rustic mezzanines built out of eucalyptus logs. There are two suites suitable for families of four members, and one bridal suite ideal for honeymooners, with the hotel's best view and its own Jacuzzi fed by a hot spring.

Private Cruz del Condor We will have our breakfast very early in the morning (about 6:00 am), so we can leave to the famous “Cruz del Condor” point as early as possible. We’ll arrive to “Cruz del Condor” at approximately 8:00 am.After taking pictures of the majestic Condors, our guide will take you for a short walk near the Canyon. We will then drive back to Chivay, visiting the traditional town of Pinchollo and the “Antahuilque viewpoint”, where a wonderful 1,500 year old terracing constructed by the Collaguas culture well before the Incas’ time can be observed. We visit the town of Maca, an Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November of 1991 and the town of Yanque with the most beautiful church in the valley. We’ll return to Chivay for lunch at a local restaurant (cost of lunch is included in the program.

Sillustani Funerary Towers Sillustani is a pre-Incan burial ground on the shores of Lake Umayo near Puno in Peru. The tombs, which are built above ground in tower-like structures called Chullpas, are the vestiges of the Colla people, Aymara who were conquered by the Inca in the 15th century. The structures housed the remains of complete family groups, although they were probably limited to nobility.

You will have plenty of time to relax and feel the serenity of Titicaca. Then Hike through a pre-Inca trail with spectacular landscapes of the island, visiting families of weavers to learn about their textile art & symbolism that has been declared by UNESCO as world heritage. 11:30 am We leave the island, after more than 3 hours of an intensive natural and cultural approach. 11:55 Arrival to the community of Santa Maria – Llachon, on the tip of the Capachica Peninsula, a very scenic off the beaten track destination. We are welcomed by a small community and quickly introduced to an intensive cross cultural experience, observe their traditions and participate in an ancient ceremony to learn about their magical world. Then experience the preparation of "Pachamanca" a traditional way of cooking meat, fish and potatoes using underground ovens - this is one of the main dishes of Peruvian cuisine. Enjoy these delicacies in a small, but very scenic, restaurant. 13:50 We leave Santa Maria. 14:25 Arrival to a remote area of the National Reserve of Lake Titicaca, and explore UROS Ccapi, these are considered as the last authentic floating islands, less commercial and little visited. Pisac Market A famed hill town, Pisac is a great place to purchase top quality Andean knitwear at lower prices than visitors will find in major cities during their travels in Peru. Woven blankets, tapestries, and alpaca garments such as sweaters and mittens, colorful fabric and accessories are found in abundance at the Pisac market in addition to pottery, jewelry, and other handicrafts. Though Pisac’s biggest crafts market takes place on Sunday, you will find fewer tourists and smaller crowds in general if you visit the weekday craft markets. The village’s largest produce market is also held on Sunday, bringing a multitude of vendors from the countryside to supply the local population with produce, fresh from the fields.

Pisac Inca Ruins It’s not hard to succumb to the charms of sunny Pisac, a bustling colonial village at the base of a spectacular Inca fortress perched on a mountain spur. Its pull is universal and recent years have seen an influx of expats and new age followers in search of an Andean Shangrila. Located just 33km northeast of Cuzco by a paved road, it’s the most convenient starting point to the Sacred Valley. The ruins are separated along the ridge into four groups: Pisac, Intihuatana, Q'allaqasa, and Kinchiracay. The Intihuatana group includes the Temple of the Sun, baths, altars, water fountains, a ceremonial platform, and an Intihuatana, a volcanic outcrop carved into a "hitching post for the Sun" (or Inti). With military, religious, and agricultural structures, the site served at least a triple purpose. Researchers believe that Pisac defended the southern entrance to the Sacred Valley, while Choquequirao defended the western entrance, and the fortress at Ollantaytambo the northern. Inca Pisac controlled a route which connected the Inca Empire with the border of the rain forest.

Ollantaytambo After lunch, we proceed onto Ollantaytambo an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning. The town is located at the foot of some spectacular Inca ruins which protected the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses. Stone used for these buildings was brought from a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River - an incredible feat involving the efforts of thousands of workers. The complex was still under construction at the time of the conquest and was never completed.

Guided Tour of Machu Picchu (2 – 3 Hours) The ‘Holy Grail’ for lovers of Inca monuments, the enigmatic lost city of Machu Picchu is the most famous archaeological site in all of South America and possibly the world. The spectacular collection of temples, terraced hills and plazas was the mountain-top citadel of the Inca under Pachacutec and Tupac Yupanqui, until the coming of the Europeans with Pizarro. It may have the most familiar name, but Machu Picchu has refused to reveal many of its mysteries, including the secrets of its construction, function, and demise. The overgrown ruins were discovered by US historian Hiram Bingham in 1911, and the quality of the stonework hints that it was an extremely important ceremonial site. The remains are thought to date from around 1450, built at the height of the Inca Empire, and as they escaped being plundered by the Spanish they include semi-intact icons and shrines that were defaced or removed at other sites. Entering the site, a set of steps leads to the ruined Temple of the Sun and a series of altars and niches. Highlights include the remains of ceremonial baths, the Sacred Plaza with its tremendous view across the Urubamba River valley, a rare shrine to the sun, and a labyrinth of passageways and cells.

Apu Machu Picchu (4 to 5 Hours Roundtrip) The hike to the summit of Apu Machu Picchu is 2 ½ hours and can be quite steep in places. This trail, accessed from Machu Picchu, joins parts of the Inca trail leading to the Sun Gate before climbing to the mountain's highest point. From there, enjoy the view of soaring eagles as well as Machu Picchu and other significant ruins in the area, such as Putukusi, Huayna Picchu, Salkantay mountain and the Vilcanota River view. This is a breathtaking hike, lot of orchids along the way, birds in the bushy areas, and with every stop the view is gets better and better. The climb is 600 meters uphill, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. *** Access to Apu Machu Picchu is controlled by special tickets which need to be purchased in advance by us. Access is 07:00 – 11:00. Please ask to have these tickets included in your tour if desired***

Inka Bridge (Bridge 1 Hour Round Trip) This hike is to the south west of Machu Picchu, a nice original trail that overlooks the Aobamba valley and the Hydro-electric plant. This Inca Bridge is a part of a mountain trail that heads west from Machu Picchu. The trail is a stone path, part of which is cut into a cliff face. A twenty-foot gap was left in this section of the carved cliff face, over a 1,900 feet drop that could be bridged with two tree trunks. When the tree trunks were removed then the trail became impassable to outsiders. The path is narrow and paved with original Inca stones. The steep trail continues on and climbs the side of the mountain, leading adventurous travelers to a remote corner of this archaeological site. In addition to a magnificent bird's-eye view of Machu Picchu, the summit also offers a perfect vantage point to the canyon of the Vilcanota River, the mountain of Putukusi and the distant snow-capped Andean peaks.

Huayna Picchu (3 - 4 Hours) Huayna Picchu is the mountain you see behind Machu Picchu. Towering above the north end of Machu Picchu this steep mountain is often seen in the backdrop to the classic photos of the ruins. The mountain is steep, but stone steps are laid along most of the way and where the mountain is steeper you will find steel cables used as handrails. For fit people it is not a difficult climb. Very Limited Access! Only 400 people are allowed to hike Huayna Picchu each day. You have to sign in at the entrance gate. The first 200 tickets are available for the 8:00am hike. The second 200 are available at 10:00am. ***You should buy these special tickets in advance with us to be sure you will have space for this hike***

The Huayna Picchu Hike You’ll find breath-taking views while hiking up and there are some ruins near the top which many like to visit. The most important thing about Huayna Picchu is the bird’s eye view of the whole of Machu Picchu from the top. More on the level of difficulty: You will be glad to see that the path is almost two meters wide, but at the beginning only, later it becomes narrower, and one side there is a steep fall. There are some accidents and even deaths every year so be aware this can be a quite dangerous hike. After a while you will find the path becomes really narrow - only a couple of feet wide and here the slope is really steep. Throughout the rocks are uneven and sometimes slippery but you will find hand rails along those areas.

Tambopata National Reserve Two-thirds of the world’s plant and animal species make their home in these immense rainforest regions, and many are believed to be yet scientifically unnamed. Tropical rainforests are called "jewels of the Earth" and the "Earth's lungs" since they are essential to sequester carbon dioxide and to release oxygen. Rainforests are also known as the "world's largest pharmacy", because of the many natural medicines discovered there. Fauna & Flora Wildlife in the Tambopata Reserve is remarkable. Giant colorful parrots, toucans, and macaws share the forest with tamarins, peccaries, black caimans, and anacondas. This region is home to hundreds of butterfly species and a large variety of monkeys, southern river otters, four feline species, and much more. Numerous world records for biodiversity have been broken here, and many species are still undiscovered. Tambopata Reserve holds the world record for ant species - 365 species; and 1200 species of butterflies. Amazon Jungle Tours Morning – Lake Sandoval Walk into the Tambopata National Reserve through terra firma forest, towards Lake Sandoval. Then navigate by dugout canoe around this beautiful oxbow lake. Afternoon - Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk Take a 20-minute ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center. Learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITAInkaterra Asociaciรณn (NGO). Ascend one of the 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m.). Descend and take a walk along the 656-foot wooden bridge (200 m.) over the aguajales swamps (Mauritia flexuosa), home of the legendary anaconda. Learn about the fauna and flora of these flooded ecosystems, part of the largest natural monoculture in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. Amazon Jungle Tours Morning – Cachuela Parrot Clay Lick Short trip by boat upstream the Madre de Dios River. Arrival to the clay lick Cachuela. Learn about the importance and benefits of the activity at a clay lick, while birdwatching colorful parrots and parakeets among other psittacids. Disembark at the remains of the Fitzcarraldo steam boat.
