Lutheridge Camper Story

My Lutheridge Experience By: Kate Henderson Lutheridge, a Lutheran church camp in the mountains of North Carolina, was a really fun experience this summer! The week contained a LOT of fun-‐filled acFviFes, but I found that I learned a lot of new things while I was having fun. That was one of my favorite parts to the camp. I could wake up each morning knowing I had a day full of learning about the Bible and God’s ways. The Bible study class “Care” had an art craO that symbolized the lesson we studied. We could keep the craO or, in some instances, give it away. The first day I was there we made a necklace to give away. I kept it for a day and then gave it away—spreading the necklace all over camp and possibly beyond. “Care” was an excellent experience, and I learned a lot from it (and now I can find my way in the Bible easier!). “CraOs” was one of my favorite classes. You could sew; make beanie babies, friendship bracelets, shrinkie dinks, and a few more. You could move around learning how to make new fun craOs to bring home. Lutheridge had many fun acFviFes to do. One was a hike around the camp where you looked for animals, listened for sounds, and explored the outdoors. A few Fmes we found a bird feather or a mark where an

animal had been, but I have to say the one thing that caught my aXenFon most on the hike was the trees. They were tall and strangely formed things. Many trees were intertwined with each other, searching for sunlight. At night Fme we would have a closing gathering. SomeFmes it would be everyone in the camp. Other Fmes it was just my cabin. It was a Fme to calm down and just look back at the day for a few minutes. My favorite was when we spread out some towels and sat in the middle of a green hill where we were surrounded by sparkling fireflies. In a way they resembled the candle in “ This LiXle Light of Mine.” Fireflies carry their light wherever they go lighFng up the space around them. My cabin counselor told us that we should be like the fireflies and carry our light wherever we go too. Thank you so much for helping me go to Lutheridge. It has inspired me, and I know I will never forget the experience. Thank you so much! I hope kids keep going to Lutheridge and keep ge]ng so much out of it as I have done. I hope their light shines ever brighter when they leave to go back home.
