The Luther Connection Lucas Cranach the Elder and Younger Lucas Cranach the Elder was a gifted painter, Reformation supporter, and good friend of Martin Luther. His son, Cranach the Younger, carried on the family tradition and also created breathtaking works of art inspired by the Reformation. Today, LutherCountry invites guests to discover magnificent Cranach altarpieces and art collections in museums across the region, which include a famous portrait of Martin Luther and many religious paintings mirroring Luther's theology. Church Music and Johann Sebastian Bach "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world." – Martin Luther Luther introduced the idea that worship should be essentially musical; 200 years later, this idea inspired the great Johann Sebastian Bach, whose Lutheran beliefs resulted in some of the world's finest choral music. Born in Eisenach, Bach also lived in Muehlhausen, Arnstadt, and Weimar, and played the DiviBlasii and Palace Church organs. Eisenach's St. George's Church still houses Bach's original baptismal font, and the city's Bach House Museum offers a unique, hands-on musical experience.  bachhaus.de/en
