ELEANOR (JOHNSON) KLUNGTVEDT of Rushford, Minn., died Jan. 11, 2012, at age 85. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business education from Luther and a master’s degree in counseling from Winona State University in 1970. She taught school at Alma, Wis., Mabel and Peterson, Minn., and Winona Vo-Tech. She taught business, typing, accounting and Norwegian and had a love for music, playing guitar and accordion and singing. She was part of her family band, The Country Melodies. Klungtvedt was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and WELCA in Peterson, Minn. She is survived by two sons, Kevin Klungtvedt and Kerry Klungtvedt; two grandchildren, Kate and JOHN KLUNGTVEDT ’13; and a brother, Glen Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orrin.
MYRON “BUD” LARSEN JR. of Sioux Falls, S.D., died suddenly on Nov. 13, 2011, at age 85, after his daily afternoon walk. As a high school senior in 1944, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy and left for boot camp the day after graduation to serve two years on the USS Natrona during World War II. After graduating from Luther, he attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., for a year. He attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, and earned a degree in pharmacy in 1956. He worked as a pharmacist in Yankton, Huron, McLaughlin, Sioux Falls, Madison, Brandon, and Redfield, S.D. After retiring, Larsen lived in Dell Rapids, S.D., and Sioux
Falls. He enjoyed attending yearly reunions with USS Natrona Navy buddies and singing with Mandskor and many church choirs. He loved his Lord and Savior and devoted much time to studying scripture and prayer. He is survived by his children, Judith Peterson, STEVE LARSEN ’81, and John Larsen; eight grandchildren; and a greatgranddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 2006; his father, MYRON LARSEN SR. ’19; and his grandfather, CHRISTIAN LARSEN, Luther class of 1883.

He was a recognized researcher in the fields of complex analysis and mathematical physics, and spoke at conferences throughout the world. Storvick was particularly active in service to the School of Mathematics and University of Minnesota. He served as associate head of the School of Mathematics from 1964 to 1970, and as associate dean of the Institute of Technology (now College of Science and Engineering) from 1979 to 1983, and from 1993 to 1994. He served as acting director of the Gray Fresh Water Biological Institute from 1989 to 90. Storvick retired in 2004. He was a member of Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, where he sang bass in the choir and served on various committees and as president of the congregation. He loved fishing and time with his family at their Crane Lake cabin. Storvick received the Distinguished Service Award from Luther in 1976. He is survived by his wife, SYLVIA (WISNESS) STORVICK ’52; children KRISTIN STORVICK ’76, JONATHAN STORVICK ’78, and SARAH (STORVICK) KUNAU ’85; six grandchildren, including PETER STORVICK ’14; a brother, OLIN STORVICK ’49; and sisters ROSALIE (STORVICK) MILLER ’53 and Sonja Hagestuen. He was preceded in death by his father, ROY STORVICK ’21.
1951 AGNES L. (HANSON) BENNETT of Turlock, Calif., died Oct. 5, 2011, at age 82. Following graduation from Luther, she earned a master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan and worked at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. In 1961, she joined the staff at California State UniversityStanislaus as head catalog librarian, retiring in 1991. She belonged to the Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Turlock and enjoyed reading. She is survived by two children, Robert D. Bennett Jr. and Signe Ericks, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2005; a sister; and two brothers.
DAVID STORVICK of Minneapolis, died Nov. 5, 2011, at age 82. He earned a master’s degree in mathematics in 1952 and a doctorate in 1956, both from the University of Michigan. After two years at Iowa State University, Storvick joined the University of Minnesota Department of Mathematics in 1957 as assistant professor. He spent the rest of his career at Minnesota, where he was promoted to associate professor in 1961 and to full professor in 1966. He enjoyed three sabbaticals, during which he visited the University of Wisconsin, Imperial College in London, and the University of York. During his career, Storvick published

JOHN OLNEY YLVISAKER of Zumbrota, Minn., died Jan. 1, 2012, at age 86. His father, JOHAN FRITJOF YLVISAKER ’16, was a missionary in South Africa, where John was born. His mother died when he was very young, and Ylvisaker and his father returned to the United States to live in Zumbrota when John was 13 years old. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. After his honorable discharge he enrolled at Luther. chemistry and physics in Elbow Lake and in Princeton, Minn., before joining the faculty in Zumbrota in 1957. He earned a master’s degree in chemistry from Montana State University in Bozeman in 1964. He retired from teaching in 1988, and was active in his community, belonging to the 65-50 Club, Lions Club, and the American Legion Post, and serving as a scoutmaster for 11 years. He was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. Ylvisaker enjoyed camping, canoeing, tinkering and repairs around the house, feeding the birds, spending time with his grandchildren, and especially being part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife, Murial “Dolly”; children Kent Ylvisaker, Eric Ylvisaker, JEAN (YLVISAKER) OHMAN ’80, and Rolf Ylvisaker; six grandchildren, including ANYA SMITH ’06; two great-great granddaughters; and a sister, RUTH YLVISAKER ’48. John was preceded in death by a son, Jon; sisters, Rebecca Ylvisaker and HELOISE (YLVISAKER) BLANCHAR ’49; his father, JOHAN FRITJOF YLVISAKER ’16; and his grandfather, ANDREAS CHRISTIAN YLVISAKER, Luther class of 1881.

ETHEL (LIENING) ZELLMER of Richmond, Va., died Jan. 1, 2012, at age 82. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline, Ill., as a registered nurse, and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Luther. She lived in Maywood and Elmhurst, Ill., Milwaukee, San Francisco, Ramsey, N.J., Austin, Texas, and Richmond. She is survived by her husband, Dean; three children, Steven, Cynthia, and Gretchen; two step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elaine Hanson and Ruth Tyrrell. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca.
