We are about to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Don Revie’s appointment as Manager of Leeds United with events and memorabilia that will generate funds to support the statue of the great man.

Don Revie was appointed Manager of Leeds United in March 1961 with the Club at its lowest ebb and immediately began to institute radical changes. He implemented a youth policy, and ordered a dramatic change of kit from the traditional blue and yellow, to an all white style, similar to that worn by Real Madrid. Don developed a close working relationship with the club Chairman Harry Reynolds and brought in a new backroom team of Maurice Lindley , Les Cocker, and Syd Owen. Revie did inherit a core of quality defenders including Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton Norman Hunter, Paul Reaney, Paul Madeley, Terry Cooper, to which he added some exceptionally fi ne goalscorers in Alan Peacock, Allan Clarke and Mick Jones. He also introduced attacking South African winger Albert Johanneson and brought in Johnny Giles from Manchester United and Bobby Collins from Everton.

Under the guidance and tactical prowess of Don Revie this squad of players evolved into a welloiled footballing machine that swept all before them winning cups, trophies and championships that helped to put the name of Leeds on the world stage. Th e list of triumphs includes two First Division Championships, an FA Cup fi nal victory, a League Cup fi nal triumph, two Inter Cities Fairs Cup fi nal successes and one FA Charity Shield win. Not to mention three more FA Cup fi nal appearances another Inter-Cities Fairs Cup fi nal and an appearance in the European Cup-winner’s Cup fi nal. Th e contribution Don Revie made to Th e City of Leeds and to the football club that bears its name was immense and we are paying tribute to his achievements with a seven foot bronze statue to be created by Yorkshire sculptor Graham Ibbeson. We are making steady progress with the fundraising but there is a long way to go before we reach our target of £90,000 and we would appreciate the support of Leeds United fans in Scandinavia. Th e opportunities to support the Don Revie Statue include the ‘1972 Club’, the Gala Dinner, event sponsorship, plaques on the statue base and a fi nancial donation.

Graham Ibbeson will begin work on the project to mark the 50th Anniversary and subject to the development work planned at Elland Road the unveiling of the Don Revie Statue is scheduled for May 2012 which will also celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Leeds United winning the FA Cup at Wembley in 1972.

Allerede har fl ere norske fans bidratt, og det er plass til fl ere. Man blir da medlem av ”Th e 1972 Club”, sammen med spillerne som vant FA Cupen under Don Revies ledelse i mai måned for snart 40 år siden. Jim Cadman organiserer for tiden temakvelder rundt omkring i supporterklubbene i England for å samle inn penger, slik det er omtalt bl.a. i februar/marsutgaven av klubbmagasinet Leeds, Leeds, Leeds. En donasjon på £250 gir deg i også et Don Revie hyldningsmagasin og en minikopi av statuen. I tillegg kommer det invitasjon til gallamiddag på Elland Road torsdag 20. oktober 2011 (pris £85) sammen med alle våre legendariske spillere fra den tiden samt selvfølgelig adgang til avdukingen av statuen neste vår. Dato er ikke fastsatt, men det blir i mai måned. Don Revie er mannen som skapte det moderne Leeds United og gav klubben et navn i fotballverdenen. Han fortjener et varig minnesmerke utenfor vår stadion. Vi er mange norske fans som føler en stor takknemlighet til Don Revie, og statueprosjektet fortjener støtte fra fl ere!

Hei alle Leeds venner! Supportercupen i Oslo, lørdag 4. juni, går i år på Snarøya Sportsklubbs anlegg på Fornebu. Kampene vil bli spilt på kunstgress. Vi vil også i år stille med to lag, og det er som vanlig 7-er fotball som gjelder. Har du lyst å være med å spille så meld deg på allerede i dag til:
