Chapter 4 – Classroom Libraries

4c. In cell B6, type “Er”. Pause, waiting for Excel to offer an auto completion. Figure 78

Excel is unable to propose an AutoEntry because of more than one possible match

4d. However, Excel won't offer to AutoComplete. Excel isn’t sure if you mean Erin or Eric, so until you type the “c” in Eric, the AutoComplete will not work. Once you type the “c”, then the entry is unique enough for Excel to propose Eric Carle. Figure 79

Excel proposes Eric Carle when it is the only possible match

4 This limitation can be especially frustrating if you have books by John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt and John Jacob Jingleheimer Scott. You must type 27 letters before Excel figures out where you are going with the entry. It might be better to use copy and paste, instead. 5. Make sure that you've selected any cell within your data. From the menu select, Data – Filter – AutoFilter. This will add a dropdown arrow to each heading. These dropdowns allow you to easily filter the data to find all books by one author.

Using the Application Entering Data To make data entry easier, choose Data – Form from the menu. An easy-to-use form will appear for entering your data. Figure 80
