The Threshold Of Space “I see architecture as an ar s c way of make special forms into func onal spaces”

Portfolio by: Luisa Muñoz

Introduction The interest in all artistic and historical aspects of architecture, design and art contained in the following portfolio is a summary of what I've had the opportunity to improve, practice and develop as a professional. After my degree as an Architect at the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in the city of Cartagena with an emphasis on design, architectural and cultural heritage, the experiences and entrepreneurial potential are the engine of evolution to a professional on a competitive level, which has led me to develop a transformation intellectual and experimental, opening opportunities to meet the different movements and ďŹ elds of architecture and art through research laboratories in academic workshops and developing concepts obtained at these workshops, summarize design concepts and theories that lead me to professional practice area. The experience is not done there, there is still far to go and learn, art has no limits.

STARTING WITH SPACE In the design process, we do not start with the program, but with an alternative source of information. The result is that the program then is induced by the already conceived space. Construction methods and materials to be used are a direct result of the relationship between region, locality, meaning, program, craftsmanship, and economic frameworks.

The role of related disciplines in our thinking and making of space The fusion of City, Fashion, and Avertisement act as the ingredients in a laboratory environment; the instruments by which exploration of ideas about territory, landscape, urbanism, structure, advertisement, settlement, and contextual design, among others, are to be examined and tested. The previous statement, as a contemporary design reality, results interesting to explore, for it is about the many ways to approach these disciplines, that one can see that they share more than what one is willing to comprehend or to accept. In order to process the given information, we are to apply contemporary alternative ways to document, analyze, process, and execute the notions that resulted from the mixture.

The multiple lives of a gesture Simultaneity, superimposition, transparency, and the dimensions of depth, whether of space or time, whether visual or aural, always appear in one surface, so that this surface really possesses two values: one when we take it for what it is materially, the other when we see it in its second virtual life. In the later case, the surface, without ceasing to be at, expands in depth. This is what we call foreshortening, in which we ďŹ nd an extreme case of a fusion of simple material vision with a purely intellectual act. porary alternative ways to document, analyze, process, and execute the notions that resulted from the mixture.

Vertical workshop -

30 hours - June 2009

Side effects The Intention The Vertical workshop where focus on understanding the city is a large mine of information contained in their tangible and intangible artifacts. From the historic center of Cartagena compositional spaces are exhumed, their intangible artifacts deďŹ ned by their faces. Spatial conditions as intersections (points), corners (folded drawings), the perimeters of the squares (static frames), the internal spaces of the parks (Dynamic volumes) and urban layout (fragmented frames) were invited to participate in a design process, an immersion in the world of advanced design and implementation of the most existing strategies and methods of production of contemporary space. th The Vertical Workshop is more an operation that a strategy. Students of 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 10 semester where combined to act under a high degree of exibility, but controlled by a collection of rules that has more with the How? that with the, Why?

Creatives Palimpsest - 2009 Design clearly is one of the most prominent marks. Design determines the look of the world and, as a result, it reects the contemporary vision of man. In other words, design is ideology. The gate is an expression of our vision: a vision that images life without architecture and aims for pure design energy. This is why the bridge is inďŹ nite and is resolved in energy. Energy is the ultimate aim of every physical process. Man is part of the physical processes that make the world go around. He does more than that: he takes possession of them. Man models the worlds according to his present views. He thus creates architecture as well as a history of design through architecture. We intend to challenge the short term thinking that is typical of all forms of political and human actions, and to put a long-term vision in its place.

Vertical Workshop October 24th and 25th Contemporary Design Estrategies New Methods of Production Geography is also symbolic: physical spaces are resolved in geometric archetypes, which are forms that emit symbols. Flat grounds, valleys, mountains and oceans: the accidents of the terrain become significant the moment that these are placed in history. The landscape is historic and transforms into a coded writing and hieroglyphic text. Each region is a society: a world, a vision of the world and the world beyond. Every geography is a history and a geometric symbol. For this Landscape Architecture studio, the geography is converted into a code, a platform to study artificial excavation principals, along with a synthetic history, will fuse to create a series of new landscapes that have the objective of occupying and existing historic are. In this document, a set of ideas are presented in an attempt to articulate and to find the most important component: Space.

studio and professional experience

Contemporary architecture and design have produced an extensive formal repertory, but a few alternate ways to approximate a design project related to a space, an object, or to explain and support their conceptual and formal results. Urban and natural historic landscapes, with their spatial experience, become the idea that induces the conceptual and material development of this visual memory.

The Multidirectionality of transferring For these learning encounter, the phenomenon of transferring and transplanting are measured based on the patterns that make up the structural systems that give order and meaning to the context, the source. Transferring occurs when the meaning found in the site context is reinterpreted in both painting and modeling, in order to ďŹ nd the presence of multiple, overlapping patterns, rhythms, and scales that may lead to multiple interpretations, resulting in the possibility of more readings than there are layers to interpret. This procedure results in simultaneous perceptions of different spatial qualities and dimensions.

Cienaga of the Virgen - Project C "Project C" project is suggested as "magnet" in the North Area, considered priority in the policies and objectives of the short and medium term current Territorial Ordering Plan.

Resort development as a contemporary global spatial experience: This project aims to change the tourism scene in the region. It all begins with conferring themes to the land; said themes are activated by water where the water becomes a platform for an architecture of enjoyment. By applying local knowledge, materials and construction methods, the project acquires meaning and gives local accent and avor to the development.

The Master Plan The resulted planned resort sits on a comprehensive, coherent, and cohesive development with planned structures positioned to maximize panoramic views of the abundant natural habitats. The project has been deďŹ ned by a well-conceived, lowdensity distribution of structures. The pool front is the hearth, catalyst and scheme organizer; it has been carefully positioned to offer spectacular views and close proximity to amenities and a variety of entertainment spaces and inviting shops and cafes. The place is to be developed in different phases; seamless borders will be created so each phase is built as a formal and meaningful extension effort of pools, resources, content and landscape.

Reaching To The Sky Architecure Space is explored through the application of different operations and strategies. We are informed by sources that, in many cases are not related to the challenge at hand, but are drawn from the most unexpected origins. In this manner the project and the spaces that make up the whole acquire meaning along alternative paths of processing information. Themes that have the power to generate meaningful moves and design gestures are analyzed in order to see if these are to be part of the design process for having the power of generating and motivating the different phases of the project.

University of Sinu - Monteria, Colombia The educational building complex, cultural and trade is in the urban area with the highest concentration in the city of Monteria and arranged around an urban plaza for cultural events and outdoor entertainment. The new complex is an example of sustainability by applying bioclimatic techniques that enable the use of the site weather conditions and water savings and electricity by adequate guidance to sunlight and winds. The ceilings are converted and roof-gardens complement that can be occupied by users.

World Trade Center Monteria, Cordoba Colombia, South America The General Master Plan of the World Trade Cente:: MIXED-USE PROJECT The project is proposed as an alternative ecological development, corporate, commercial, residential and tourist area in the north of the city of Monteria's Sinu river front. International Seminar of Contemporary Architecture III Monteria, 2011 A workshop derived by our interest in paradoxes, for constant movement between opposites to generate fragile architecture is devised from the light, radiate light and create, which uses the shadows to generate spaces built by the mystery, the prelude, the unexpected encounters. Never before, the sunlight and the contact with the city, had been placed in that context: detonator, producer of a rule-based sensual and poetic architecture, the only ones capable of metaphysics that deals with the limits of possible, so mysterious, so fragile, with nature and understand that, like all, provides an opportunity to invent, to dislocate, to enrich the world, to rebuild, to reassemble, to provoke textures confrontations, unexpected technical and evoked through the historic center of Monteria. http://issuu.com/designalterfoundation/docs/arquitectura_contemporanea_monteria_iii
