Home of the Innocents, Louisville, Kentucky

4|

Luckett & Farley provided full-service architectural, engineering and interior design services for the development of construction documents and for construction administration for an entirely new campus for Home of the Innocents. The conceptual design was provided by another consultant. This project is an entirely new campus for the Home. Phase I of this project included the demolition of 15 acres of buildings, formerly with the Bourbon Stockyards, which had contaminated and hazardous materials.

The new campus contains two operating units– a pediatric convalescent center for children needing continuous nursing supervision and an emergency shelter for children temporarily without a home. The first phase of the project, completed in 2004, included 8 interconnected structures and the overall site development at a cost of approximately $17,000,000. The second phase, currently under construction, includes 5 free standing structures and associated sitework. The total project cost is approximately $45,000,000.

St. Vincent de Paul Campus Master Plan and Family Housing, Louisville, Kentucky

Luckett & Farley provided design services to develop a site master plan of the St. Vincent de Paul campus, which included programming to determine the needs of the organization, best use of their existing facilities and opportunities for future growth. Luckett & Farley also provided architecture and engineering design for four housing facilities of three different designs. The units are comprised of 54 new low-income family apartments and single units. The design for the housing was inspired by the surrounding

neighborhood, incorporating historic elements present such as wrought iron fencing and open porches. Sustainable design strategies were used to maximize energy efficiency with thick layers of recycled denim and newspaper insulation. Reuse of existing brick, limestone and wood cornice and trim preserved the historic character of the neighborhood and eliminated landfill waste. Construction of the new apartments is being funded by a U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant administered through the Kentucky Housing Corporation.

Family Place, Louisville, Kentucky

Luckett & Farley provided comprehensive planning, design & construction services for the relocation of Family Place, a non-profit, child abuse treatment facility. Initially, Luckett & Farley developed a master planprototype design for use in considering new construction options and to evaluate existing buildings for renovation. During this planning phase we assisted in evaluating existing buildings in addition to locating and recommending the building that Family Place ultimately chose to renovate and move into. The relocation project consisted of the total interior demolition and renovation of an 11,000sf building. Due to the short schedule for relocation and the need to coordinate donated efforts, Luckett & Farley recommended collaborating with Luckett & Farley Design Build, LLC., our subsidiary company, for the construction of the project. Together we completed the remaining design and construction of the project in 6 months. Design features include an early childhood development center containing classrooms, educational offices, library, resource center and kitchen. Clinical therapy and counseling is provided by 6 professional offices and observation, conference and art therapy rooms. Family visitation is provided in designated secure spaces that are supervised

and monitored for safety. Separate parking, entries and waiting areas are provided for estranged family members. Administrative and office management areas include childfriendly lobby and reception, development, financial and executive spaces in addition to a 40 person board room designed for multi-purpose daily activities. Various other projects provided by volunteers and donations were coordinated by Luckett & Farley including site work, playgrounds, exterior building maintenance, communication systems, food service equipment and security systems.
