14 SPORTS Wesley College Boys Win CSSSA Basketball Championship Belize City, December 9, 2016 The Wesley College boys won the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) basketball championship with 2 back to back wins in the finals against the Gwen Lizarraga High School boys at the SJC gym last Wednesday and Friday, December 9. In Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday, the Wesley boys blew out Gwen Liz: 47-34, led by Tevaun Lennan with 15pts. Kerdell Tench added 10pts and Xylon Belgrove and Gregory Buckley put up 8pts apiece. Gwen Liz’s Kenyon Requena and Trey Gentle scored 11pts apiece; Jarrell Westby added 9pts and Kenneth Buckley and Ivan Cacho threw in a bucket apiece. In Game 2 on Friday, the Wesley boys won 60-47 vs. Gwen Liz, led by Elden Gladden with 14 pts. Joshua Bradley and Tevaun Lennan scored 11 pts. apiece, while Xylon Belgrove added 8pts and Gregory Buckley had 6pts. Gwen Liz’s Jarrel Westby scored 13 pts., and Trey Gentle and Raheem Brooks added 11pts apiece while Kenyon Requena had 8pts. The Wesley boys will represent the Central Zone at the

ACC Girls Win CSSSA Basketball Championship Belize City, December 9, 2016 The Anglican Cathedral College girls won the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) basketball championship by 2 back to back wins in the finals against the Wesley College girls at the SJC gym last Wednesday and Friday, December 9. In Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday, ACC won 36-3 vs. Wesley, led by Shandra Palacio with 16 pts., and Zaria Jenkins added 12 pts. Gianni Fortune scored 4pts, and Bria Gabourel and Kailah White threw in a bucket apiece. Wesley’s Taliyah Hyde scored 3pts. In Game 2 on Friday, ACC bombed Wesley 44-11, led by Zaria Jenkins with 32pts and Shandra Palacio added 8pts. Gianni Fortune scored 4pts. Wesley’s Taliyah Hyde scored 3pts, Marcelina Williams added 4pts, and Cherish Wade threw in a bucket. The ACC girls will represent the Central Zone at the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) basketball championships to be held at the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School gymnasium in Dangriga on Friday and Saturday, December 16-17.
