Conviver space Seashore library Zahleh traditional house

Summary

As an architect, I see that the sketch is the fastest technique in defining architecture. Architects and others use architectural drawings for the following purposes: to develop design ideas into cohesive proposals, to exchange ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the benefits of design, and to help contractors follow design intent (such as design and planned development records) Or register existing buildings for restoration work.

Conviver space by DMDV architects

My architectural drawings are made according to a set of conventions, including specific views (plans, sections, etc.). In my point of view, Sketches are freehand drawings that are executed quickly. They are a quick way to record and develop ideas. They are not designed to do the job. Also, diagrams can also be drawn freehand, but symbols must be processed to develop the logic of the drawing. Both can be developed in a more reasonable form and used to convey design principles.

The project extends over a linear ground, although with an irregular topography. To guarantee the maintenance of the vegetation, several openings in the pavilion were considered in order to distribute the room schedule in the existing glades. Text description provided by the architects.

The implementation was opted in order to preserve as much as possible the existing tree extension. Another relevant premise was to implement the project according to the population density of the surrounding buildings. Text description provided by the architects.

The declivity of the ground on the edge allowed the configuration of a mid-level plateau below the rest of the building. It was decided to maintain the roof level, configuring a space with a higher ceiling height connected to the rest of the pavilion through a ramp in the middle of the vegetation. Text description provided by the architects.

Seashore Library by Vector Architect At that moment, we envision the future library should also be quietly sitting on the seashore. From outside, it looks like a weathered rock that is pure and solid; but inside, what it contains is the rich feelings and experiences. When walking into the space, one starts to feel the light, breezes, and sound of the ocean. What comes after the perception is the unique spiritual linkage between each individual and the sea. In here, everyone can slow down the usual pace, and unfold the feeling of distant and loneliness different from the city life. Text description provided by the architects.

The majority of older homes you see are likely vernacular structures. In theory, a vernacular house is built without an architect. Local builders used what was available to them and pulled from a variety of design styles to create simple homes that became distinct to a specific area.

Summary

The Project is a programmed outdoor constellation positioned on selected sites in the field located in ksara, in Zahle. So the choice of the site, entirely centered on the celestial sphere, shows that to enjoy the best astronomical experience you need a steep slope.

Mass Plan

The project is a constellation which approaches the defense of parents for their son; so we created a main apartment that embraces another that of the son who develops at ease but always protected by that of the parents. The project always connects, although each section is an astremia including the constellation.

- 16 -

It is a climate of a tent in a forest where the person is an amateur astronomer who observes celestial objects in the sky using the naked eye, binoculars or telescopes in project it is accessible due to tilted louvers directed towards a global view of zahle.

Longitudinal section

Overview The louvers also reduce distractions and focus users on the celestial sphere only, so we can observe and appreciate pure nature extremely. Also the separation of the son’s apartment is completed by the inclination of the parents’ apartment; which by design creates an enclave, giving people the basic feeling of security. During the night, it becomes a place of star exhibition and sharing of experience. Ground Floor Plan

Main Elevation

In conclusion, it is to see, feel, appreciate and touch nature itself.

BAALBEK; The other side of the coin

We concluded that the main tourism is based on the temples, discluding the souk, the magnificent nature of the desert and the mountains surrounding the city.

Project type

So, it begins with two main idea; tourism and environment and how to merge them through urban architecture. As of the project, it should highlight the importance of creating eco-touristic facilities in the Lebanese environment.

Design Advisor

We supervised two main axes Cardo and Decumanus of the city of Heliopolis. So, we took the Cardo axis (Baalbek temple – rass el Eiin):

Area

Summary

Tourism today has become a huge industry all over the world, so countries do their best to meet the needs of tourists and their requirements. Founded by the Phoenicians, Baalbek was later conquered by the Macedonians who called it “Heliopolis” meaning “Always the City of the Sun” for assimilation between the Sun god and the Phoenician divinity Baal. It later became a Roman colony under Augustus, preserving the new name. Baalbek is located 86 km east of Beirut, at an altitude of 1150m, surrounded by the vast agricultural plains of the northern Bekaa region was the choice of site to study.

- 24 -

First node The temples: Baalbek is a very rich city with archaeological sites. The scale and grandiose of its temples, which gives the impression from the first visit, should be enough to make Baalbek one of the most important archaeological tourism destinations in the region.

However, these sites are not given the attention they deserve. Today, three main buildings still remain: The Temple of Jupiter, The Temple of Bacchus and the circular Temple of Venus. A fourth monument, the Temple of Mercury, is located on the hill of Sheikh Abdallah. only in July and August we see the revival of the city due to the International Baalbek Festival which hosts international, regional, local performers and musicians. Second node Ras al-Ain area: which is also rich with symbols. It’s where the source of spring water emanating from the eastern slopes and flowing towards the temple site is located, which is precisely how and why Baalbek exists. This park represents a symbol of greenery, recreation, leisure, and childhood nostalgia.

We supervised two main axes Cardo and Decumanus of the city of Heliopolis. So, we took the Cardo axis (Baalbek temple –rass elEiin). Third node The project: located on the same axis on a sloping land. The architectural layout is consistent with the natural environment in order to create a unique slope landscape. In the design, we combined the characteristics of sloping land and adopt the landscape contrast of sloping land. The three-dimension project is introduced into the architectural space to enrich the spatial changes, shorten the distance between man and nature, and reflect the coordination between the natural environment and the artificial environment. The project enriches the landscape pattern, and bring more abundant activity space to the citizens. In the design of spatial order, the project is divided into seven functional zones: pedestrian entrance area, distribution axis, main functional building group of souks, exhibition spaces and restaurants, ecological center, sport center, spa and an hotel. So as to make full use of the site features, and use the landscape to integrate all functional areas organically.

EVALUATION OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND HISTORICAL BUILDINGS • Tourism: 1. not given the attention thatdeserve. 2. absence of a general touristic plan • CHUD Project: 1. targeted the development of the ancient city of Baalbek 2. No acceptance for a car-free ancient city. 3. any new archaeological discoveries and findings are covered and neglected. • Advertisement: 1.Insufficient advertisement. - 25 -

Urban Strategy

- 26 -

Program The souk performs as the epicenter for culture, fashion, art and entertainment. Proposed as a multi-event pedestrian street, it is easily transformed from a busy commercial street with coffee shops, into a vibrant exhibition, or a summer concert from a local orchestra. A distinctive roofscape is introduced to ensure light as a key component to engage an active dialogue with the city of sun.

THE Path.

The path area expands to create small, intimate plazas, the project addresses not only on creating a shopping street, but also to the tremendous opportunity to re-invent the contemporary pedestrian street. The path links both ends of the parcel, operating as an urban component to connect with different plots and programs, by doing so, this inner pedestrian street propels the flow of people, program and activity needed to activate the entire site. The pedestrian street serves as a meeting place, both spontaneous and planned, due to series of intimate plazas, pocket gardens and parks that appear along the way, it also provides multiple standpoints to observe the high-end retail stores, gallery spaces, and enjoy the nature, handmade goods or restaurant and coffee shops. The architecture that is strategically placed along the path generates an impression with a deep perspective, inviting the visitor to come, experience and stay. The path helps to create “a sense of place”; it offers a comfortable place to sit and gather while creating a unique image for the neighborhood.

The sports center is designed as a unique form, responding to the surrounding mountains on the overall urban level. Multiple number of high-level activity platforms, which greatly improves the accessibility and participation of the site. Centre for Ecological Activities was designed as a part of the project, facilities for ecological activities - educational biocentre. The facility is to be used to educate the public about the environment and its processes and to support public environmental awareness. The spa’s architecture takes an advantage of the existing topography as well as the local vegetation. The pavilion raises from the ground, with circulation areas and patios all around its perimeter. The supporting areas such as changing room, storage and bathrooms are opaque. The other areas receive glass closures that open and close, visually integrating with the surrounding green areas. The last pavilion or the hotel, facing the great city urban and against the mountains. two wings one designed with suits, another for student, hikers or sport teams’ renters, combined with restaurants and it’s accessible to the wellness spa by the underground passage. The roofscape is designed to maximize the view which is oriented to the city urban fabric and the mountain hills.

The idea of the commission was to organize a series of services: picnic bar, restaurant, toilets, swimming pools, changing rooms, warehouses, offices, etc., on a slope facing Qornet Chehwan, in order to create a d interest and to avoid the uncontrolled use of the forest.

The architectural idea was to create a large parasol, an extension of the branches of the trees which "rationalized" the atmosphere of light and shade, of large and small spaces that the mountain has. A structural wood frame was used, a grid of pillars, the constant section of the wood for the whole is a square, and the cover of the closed spaces is made of translucent plastic sheets placed under the frame.

Location

Broumana, Matn, Lebanon

Summary

This workshop aims to meet a certain need: the adoption of a coherent policy and an effective approach in the field of built heritage. The overall spirit of the workshop is to give a strengthen meaning to identity in the work of students and to reduce any anxiety about cultural uniformity. As most of the villages, Brummana has an Aramaic name which most probably means “house of Rammana, the God of Air, Storm and Thunder”. In the location where Brummana was built it was thought that the god Rammanu lived there, which gave the name “House of Rammanu”, and it is known that the letter B at the beginning of the name of villages refers to “beit” in Syriac, meaning “house”. Brummana is one of Lebanon’s main summer resorts due to its relatively cool climate.Sitting on top of a pine-forested hill, the town has views over Beirut, the Mediterranean coast, and the surrounding mountainous area. It attracts Lebanese visitors for day and weekend trips.
