DON’T! Skateboarding has gotten awfully political. Nowhere is this more evident than in the never-ending battle to save the soul of skateboarders through the soles of their feet. This acrimonious skate shoe slap fight is personified by the efforts of the “Don’t Do It” foundation, an informally organized cadre of anti-Nike skaters, surfers and industry figures.

When I first moved to Memphis, I saw a cartoon that said, “The road to success doesn’t go through Memphis, Tennessee.” I laughed about it because it seemed so right to me. I was a struggling writer working as a cater waiter wondering if I’d ever find success.
Years later I began to understand what success really is.

So in May of 2008, Memorial Day weekend, where I had 3 days off and a rental car at my disposal– I made plans for me and my numero uno to hit the road and meet up with a complete stranger that left Rockin’ Ron a mark on our hearts forever. bruit joyeux 14 Pack by KMA Punk Rock. Beer. Kiss My Ass. Skateboarding. This is early ‘80s throwback skateboard punk rock music from Tennessee. Andy, Jed, Spud and Louie are creating loud, aggressive, take no prisoners (and whatever other cliché for aggressive tunes you might want to add). I met these guys the morning of Skate Rock, got a disc and put it in. Perfect hype for a session music. It became the soundtrack for the day.
