Yhteiskuorossa on jo yli 20 laulajaa. Näihin kuoroihin kutsutaan kaikkia laulavaisia. Sunnuntaina 31.7. on juhlapaikalla Scandinavian Community Centerillä ekumeeninen jumalanpalvelus klo 10:30. Seuraava kuorojen yhteisharjoitus on heinäkuussa, torstaina 21.7. klo 7 pm Emmauksessa. Nuotteja kaikkiin kuorolauluihin saa samasta paikasta. Ei muuta kuin laulamaan. — Jukka Joensuu

FinnWest 2011 - Lecture Series 1. Paula Wild. The Sointula Story: Sex, Scandal and the Missing Money will tell the story of Canada’s unique socialist-utopian community founded in 1901 by Finnish settlers. To find out more about this award-winning author, visit www.paulawild.ca 2. Eric Enno Tamm. The Horse That Leaps Through Clouds is a tale of espionage, the silk road and modern China. On July 6, 2006 the author embarked on a trip to retrace Baron Gustaf Mannerheim’s voyage to China that began exactly 100 years earlier. For more info about this exciting topic and the author, visit www.ericennotamm.com 3. Jonathan Rundman. Finnish and Nordic Liturgy and Hymnody and their continued impact on North American Church Music. Jonathan will facilitate a discussion and musical exploration of current liturgical resources from Finland, give examples of new Nordic liturgies being developed in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and lead some songs from his own setting of A Heartland Liturgy. Bring your voice and sense of adventure! 4. Allan Ailo. The Finnish Coat of Arms. Most people do not realize the rich and varied history of Finland which is also depicted through its national coat of arms. Allan’s extensive knowledge in heraldry and his graphic skills will make this lecture a visual treat and a great history lesson. 5. Irene McCutcheon. A History of the Finnish Hall in Vancouver. During the last century, every Finnish community in Canada and in the United States had a “hall” that was the focal point of all their cultural activities. A hall was THE meeting place for new immigrants and a venue where you could celebrate your “Finnishness” in the new land. Irene’s passion for art, music and teaching will help make local history come alive in this lecture. 6. Ernest Hekkanen will read a selection from his Collected Short Stories, including “Dad went back to Finland”. This Finnish Canadian author, whose versatility and productivity defy easy categorization, is editor-inchief of The New Orphic Review. But he is also a poet, short story writer, novelist, essayist, playwright, anthologist, reviewer, publisher, printmaker, sculptor and carver. Expect anything!
