Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center at North Shore University Hospital Foundation is one of three KPTC programs operating in the New York District of Kiwanis. The foundation supports pediatric trauma efforts at the Cohen Children's Medical Center as well as programs throughout the area to protect the safety of children and to improve the ability of local emergency medical services response teams. Every year, more children die from unintentional injuries than all childhood diseases combined. Trauma claims the lives of 25,000 children each year. Another 120,000 youngsters are permanently disabled. It doesn't have to be that way. With proper, prompt care, about 25 percent of the

deaths and disabilities could be prevented or reduced. Saving children's lives requires fully staffed and equipped facilities such as those at the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center (KPTC) at Cohen Children's Medical Center. The best trauma programs work with, and train, pre-hospital care providers such as paramedics and emergency medical technicians who are skilled in pediatric emergency and lifesupport care.

Children’s Miracle Network Every minute, 62 children enter a Children's Miracle Network Hospital. These hospitals need donations to continue providing the best care available to the tiniest of patients.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN Hospitals contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs and provide health care for children whose parents can’t afford to pay.

More than 170 children's hospitals are affiliated with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Find a Children's Miracle Network Hospital near you and learn about the work they are doing in your community.

Vice President of Lindenhurst

Every year, Key Clubbers from all around the U.S get to attend the annual leadership training conference, otherwise known as LTC. During this fun filled weekend members from neighboring key clubs gather together to celebrate all their hard work and success of another prosperous year. This year was my first time attending LTC, and I have to say that it was the most amazing experience. It was a lot of fun to meet other key clubbers; and it was an excellent opportunity to learn new information and ideas. You are constantly interacting with other people and participating in different activities that force you to mingle with people that you've never spoken to before. This is the whole idea behind the popular event; PLAY FAIR! I have to say, I was a little overwhelmed when I first walked into the room with what looked to be over a thousand people, but it turned out to be a very fun and eye opening experience. I met and interacted with so many new people, some of whom I still speak with. It's an entertaining night filled with team-building activities and experiences that have a huge impact on all of its attendees. Additionally, throughout the weekend I was fortunate enough to attend several different information sessions. There are a various number of workshops that people can attend, and all of them are hosted by members of the state and district boards. The workshops are all different, and they range from small to large service projects and ideas. For example, people have the opportunity to learn more about fundraising, communication, and charity work. Key clubbers also get to listen to and meet guest speakers who share information about international service projects, such as The Thirst Project and The Eliminate Project. Also, key clubbers can attend workshops where they learn more about their role or position in their club. There are also competitive events like penny wars and the talent show that everyone is allowed to participate in. Club districts also get recognized for their hard work and are awarded with certificates and plaques for their outstanding service. Then, members are able to participate in the election of their new district and state boards. Of course, throughout the weekend members get free time to do whatever they want; and on the last night everyone is invited to the Governor's Ball. The ball is an opportunity to relax and have fun with all of your new friends. The 68th annual Leadership Training Conference will be hosted on March 18-20th, 2016, and I look forward to seeing you all there! -Chandni Patel
