SIGMA TAU PARTICIPANTS IN NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY BY TERRENCE KINARD
On March 2, 2022, the Brothers of Sigma Tau Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated participated in the National Read Across America Day. National Read Across America Day is a national observance that was started by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to encourage children to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources with a different theme each year. This year’s Read Across America theme was diversity and inclusion. As part of the Fatherhood Initiative, Sigma Tau Brothers coordinated with the school librarian, Mrs. Bernadette Valenzuela to select ageappropriate literature. Brothers Antone Reese (not pictured), Robert Robinson, Jamaar Redd, Marcus McCoy, Terrance Kinard, and Jeromy Hamilton (not pictured) read to the students at Western Hills Elementary School in El Paso, Texas. The children ranging from ages 5-12 actively participated with the Brothers as the stories were virtually narrated. Due to COVID protocols, the Brothers read their books over Zoom as Mrs. Valenzuela hosted the event from the school library. The Brothers of Sigma Tau were afforded the opportunity to meet the students, and faculty members after the event concluded.
