Libby - a name to be trusted in the A/C business CROWLEY- When speaking with Lawrence and Mike Libby of Libbys Air Conditioning, it doesn’’t take long to understand how they got their reputation as the most experienced and reputable air conditioning company in the area. ““Our business was started in 1946 by my grandfather, Lawrence Sr.,”� said Mike Libby. ““My father (Lawrence Jr.) took over in 1964.”� In 1968, Michael joined his father in the family

business. The Libbys are quick to point out that the family business was not originally air conditioning. ““My great-grandfather, Anderson Fontenot, started a sheet metal business in 1919,”â€? said Mike. ““When my grandfather got interested in air conditioning he was able to use his father’’s shop to build materials.”â€? According to Mike, his grandfather saw the potential in the air conditioning business when he began adding units to area theaters and business places. ““He realized that it was only a matter of time before people would want them in their homes,”â€? said Lawrence Jr. Lawrence Sr.’’s foresight seems to have paved the way for the next few Libby generations. Libbys Air Conditioning mainly services Acadia and Vermilion Parishes, though they are willing to travel to other areas as well. ““Every so often we get a call out of Lafayette and other areas which we have no problem doing, but for the most part we mainly serve Acadia and Vermilion,”â€? said Mike. Libby Air Conditioning has been afďƒžliated with Trane/ GE for over 40 years. They sell Trane air conditioners and service all types of air conditioning equipment. In 1996, Libby’’s Air Conditioning moved into their

current location under the Eastern Avenue bridge in Crowley. This year marks Libbys 65th anniversary. Lawrence Jr. is proud of the fact that the businesses’’ ownership has remained in his family for so long. ““Most of our competition has either worked for us in the past or their business has changed ownership a few times since they’’ve opened,”â€? he said. ““We’’ve remained the one constant.”â€? Another thing the Libby’’s are quite proud of is that during all the technology changes over the last several decades, they’’ve always stayed on top. ““We believe in constant education on all the new systems that come out,”â€? said Mike. ““We have systems out now that clean and purify the air, even one that kills the ďƒ&#x;u viruses.”â€?
