Welcome to Club 40+ At LSI, we welcome mature students of all ages throughout the year. The Club 40+ Programme combines our regular mixed-age English language group tuition (or German tuition in Zurich) with a unique activity programme specifically designed around the interests of our more mature students.

2 British Museum Often considered as one of the world's finest museums, the British Museum is located in the charming neighbourhood of Bloomsbury, a short walk from the school. With a permanent collection of over eight million pieces, there is something for everyone. Visit the ancient Egyptian galleries or those devoted to Ancient Greece or Rome – it really is a must of any visitor to London.

Traditional English Tea Room ne of the most famous aspects of London life is O afternoon tea. Many visitors enjoy the ceremony of finger sandwiches and cakes. We will help you enjoy this experience and make the very most of this unique opportunity. 3

Borough Market & Shakespeare’s Globe Borough Market is the number one destination for those who love food in London. With food stalls from all over the world, it’s easy to find delicious treats to enjoy there or take home. Follow this with a visit to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. A modern replica of the original 17th century theatre, it provides a 'taste' of old London. 4

5 Covent Garden & the Royal Opera House T he Covent Garden neighbourhood is one of London’s most beautiful. With small boutiques and restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere, it is a charming place to visit. Combine this with a special backstage tour of one of the world’s most famous theatres and see how they prepare for a show. 6 Greenwich & the Meridian Visit the home of time. The Greenwich Meridian is the point where the universal standard time (UTC) is set and is located in one of the most architecturally interesting parts of London. Explore the nearby historic Royal Naval College, during your visit.

Beer Tasting in a Traditional English Pub L earn the difference between bitter, ale and lager while you chat with your teacher and experience the very English atmosphere of a traditional pub. You may choose to stay for dinner! In the last few years, London has produced some excellent “gastro-pubs” which offer some very good menus including traditional favourites such as fish & chips or steak & kidney pie.

3 Tower Bridge & Borough Market T he perfect tour for food lovers! Visit London’s great food market and sample the delicious local and European produce. Follow this with a walk along the River Thames to see the beautiful views of Tower Bridge. Nearby attractions include the Tate Modern and Southwark Cathedral. 4 St James’ Park, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square & the National Gallery Walk through one of London’s most picturesque parks on the way to the Queen’s official London residence. Then see the beautiful collection of art at the famous National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. 5 Victoria & Albert Museum and Harrods, Knightsbridge Visit the world’s largest museum of international art and design including the fascinating theatre and performance gallery. Harrods, one of the most famous and impressive department stores in the world, is a short walk away.

6 Hampstead Heath & Tea at Kenwood House E njoy a delicious traditional English afternoon tea of scones and jam in the beautiful surroundings of Kenwood House. This former 18th Century stately home also exhibits some beautiful paintings from well known artists. After tea, you can walk around the stunning gardens.

2 Cambridge Botanical Gardens pen for over 150 years, the Botanical Gardens have been O designed with over 8,000 different plant species set in 40 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens. The winter garden contrasts with the superb tropical glasshouses ensuring there is always something to amaze regardless of when you visit.

Punting on the River Cam T he River Cam runs through the very heart of the city and is the best place to enjoy the stunning views of the university buildings and gardens. A traditional punt will allow you to float effortlessly through the scenery, unless of course you fancy giving the guide a break, and having a go at punting yourself!

4 Cream Tea at Granchester Meadows A stroll from Cambridge to Granchester follows the river through the meadows, an unspoilt grassland with wild flowers and wildlife. After arriving at Granchester, we enjoy a traditional cream tea with scones, jam and clotted cream at the Orchard before returning to Cambridge. 5 Micro Brewery tour & Pub Crawl T he Brewhouse in Cambridge offers a tour of its brewing facilities, where they have been making their own speciality beers in house for many years. Following a taster, we then head off into the evening to sample the rich variety of Cambridge pubs, each of which has its own story to tell; from the Empress with its loveable bar pig, to the Eagle where messages burnt into the ceiling by soldiers during the second world war are still visible.

Museum of History of Science This small, friendly museum is packed with fascinating instruments, bizarre models and wonderful ideas ranging from the middle ages to the present day. The museum prides itself on being ‘hands on’ ensuring that you can touch and examine many of the exhibits and conduct mini experiments yourself.

Brighton is a vibrant city situated between the sea and the beautiful Sussex Downs. Often referred to as London-by-Sea, Brighton boasts a fascinating history and hosts some of the largest arts and comedy festivals in the UK. Location

Sample Activities 1 The Royal Pavilion T he Royal Pavilion is an extraordinary and extravagant pleasure palace. Built for the Prince Regent, later King George IV, in stages between 1787 and 1823, the Royal Pavilion is remarkable for its exotic oriental appearance both inside and out. This magnificent royal pleasure palace was revered by fashionable Regency society and is still a distinctive landmark for vibrant Brighton & Hove today. The Royal Pavilion is also home to some of the finest collections and examples of the chinoiserie style in Britain. You can relax and have a drink and something to eat in the beautiful tea room.

2 The BA i360, Pier & Seafront T he i360 is the world's tallest vertically moving observation tower also offers amazing, panoramic views over the city and the South Coast and is a great way to start learning about Brighton and Hove’s heritage. After that, take a walk along the seafront to Brighton Pier and enjoy the amusements.

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery S et in the heart of the city’s cultural quarter, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is located in the Royal Pavilion gardens. Its rich collections and exciting exhibits are dynamically displayed in stimulating surroundings.

4 Eco Brighton Visit an Earthship. This sustainable building is set in the beautiful Stanmer Park. This pioneering demonstration project has evolved over the last ten years, providing jobs for local workers and enabling people to come and experience a cutting edge eco-build and be inspired to respond to climate change in their own ways back at home and work.

Brighton and Hove Football Stadium T our our fabulous American Express Community stadium home of the Albion! The journey for a club with no home 20 years ago to the Premier League in 2017 is a fascinating tale of football and money. Whether you're a Seagulls fan or just looking for a great day out, with stadium tours, Dick's Bar, and the Albion museum, you'll be left with a lasting impression of this iconic sporting venue and award winning building set in the stunning South Downs.

Seven Sisters Country Park & Heritage Centre The Seven Sisters and Beachy Head are amongst the UK’s most recognisable seaside scenes. Travelling there includes a journey through the historic ports of Newhaven and Seaford and when you reach the country park there is a visitor centre and a charming walk to the beach and the incredible photogenic chalk sea cliffs. 6

1 Tour of the Old City iscover the old city of Zurich with its many churches, D historic buildings and varied history. Who were Felix and Regula? Why did Zwingli eat sausage in church? These and many more intriguing questions will be answered on the tour. On the way back you can walk along the river Limmat enjoy the sun, see the sights and stop at one of the lovely street cafés for a delicious cup of coffee. 2 Boat Ride to Rapperswil hy not take a boat across the lake of Zurich to the W beautiful city of Rapperswil? During the boat trip you’ll eat a traditional Swiss meal whilst enjoying the breath-taking views along the lake and the distant mountains. Once you’ve arrived in Rapperswil you must go up to the castle then visit the beautiful rose garden. To end the visit you can enjoy some real Italian ice cream down by the lake. 3 Art Galleries and Museums hile staying in Zurich, you should visit at least one of our W art galleries or museums. The Landesmuseum offers a great variety of exhibitions on Swiss history and culture. Or, if you prefer to see some astounding pieces of art, why not visit the Kunsthaus. It hosts several very interesting exhibitions on various artists both post-modern and classical. Naturally, there are many more galleries and museums to see in and around the city.

Zurich West For those whose interests lay in Zurich's more recent history, a tour of Zurich West is just the thing for you. The former industrial centre of Zurich has been transformed into a vibrant, urban and trendy neighbourhood. It is where the locals spend their free time and take in some of Zurich’s more contemporary culture. 4

5 Country Hikes The countryside around Zurich is easily accessible and perfect for keen walkers. There are various routes on offer. The Panoramaweg takes you via shaded woods through Zurich’s Oberland towards Rapperswil. You can take a train to the top of Zurich’s local mountain, the Uetliberg, walk around then wander back down. Or there are further trails along the lake. Don't forget to pack a delicious picnic to enjoy along the way!

2 North End Neighborhood The North End neighborhood is known as Boston’s Little Italy. Walking through this area, you will smell the delicious aroma of pastries and cappuccinos coming from the Italian bakeries. You can also peruse the boutique shops, or take a walk along the picturesque waterfront bordering the city.

Back Bay Neighborhood The Back Bay Neighborhood is an historic area where you can still find beautifully maintained Brownstone buildings. The area is also known for the trendy shopping in Copley Square, such as the Prudential Center and Copley Place. You can also take a tour of the historic and beautiful Boston Public Library. 3

4 Cambridge Neighborhood Take the afternoon to enjoy the famous Cambridge neighborhood, starting by taking a stroll along the Charles River. Cambridge is home to two prestigious Ivy League universities: Harvard and MIT. Learn about one of the universities by taking a campus tour. After your tour, you can go shopping in Harvard Square, and enjoy a snack in one of their many cafes. 5 Walk a Heritage Trail Walking the heritage trails located throughout Boston is a great way to see the city and to learn about key historical moments that helped shape Boston. Some walking trail options include the Freedom Trail, Women’s Heritage, Black Heritage, or the Irish Heritage Trail. 6 Boston Common In the fall and spring, you can see the beautiful colors of the changing leaves (fall) or new flowers (spring) while walking through the Boston Common & Public Gardens. You can even take a peaceful ride on a swan boat in the lake. After, take a stroll down Newbury Street, Boston’s answer to 5th Avenue, to shop in some of the most stylish and chic stores in Boston.

1 University of California Berkeley Tour Take a stroll through downtown Berkeley and the `Gourmet Ghetto'. Stop for lunch at one of the many critically acclaimed local restaurants before continuing on to the University of California Berkeley Campus. Take a guided tour of the campus, California's first! You'll end the afternoon with a view of Berkeley and San Francisco from the top of the iconic Sather tower.

Civic Center & Golden Gate Park Get to know San Francisco a bit better with this tour of the historic City Hall. Afterwards, you'll catch one of San Francisco's famous street cars to head to Golden Gate Park. Some highlights of the park include the world renowned Japanese Tea Garden, as well as the De Young Museum of Art.

3 Oakland Museum of California & Lake Merritt For this activity you'll take the BART train to downtown Oakland to visit the Oakland Museum of California. The museum traces the history of California, from the native Ohlone people, through the Gold Rush, and straight on to the Bay Area's current tech boom. When you're done at the museum, you'll continue to Lake House on Lake Merritt to enjoy a lakeside refreshment.

Golden Gate Bridge & Muir Woods Take a gorgeous drive along San Francisco's embarcadero, and then onto the Golden Gate Bridge. 1 Vancouver Lookout We will take you for a short walk around Downtown Vancouver and head towards the Lookout, which is the perfect first stop for visitors and locals alike. It offers a fascinating bird’s eye view of our city.

2 UBC Anthropology Museum The UBC Museum of Anthropology is one of Canada’s foremost museums, renowned for its Northwest Coast Collections and collaborative approach to working with the First Nations and other cultural communities. 3 Vancouver Art Gallery The Vancouver Art Gallery, located in a stunning, turn-ofthe-century heritage building in the heart of downtown Vancouver, is the fifth largest art gallery in Canada. Its permanent collection of over 9,100 items includes more than 200 major works by Emily Carr and the Group of Seven and illustrations by Marc Chagall. 4 Granville Island & Brewery Developed in 1979 from what used to be an industrial area under the Granville Street Bridge, the island features live entertainment and an amazing food market. 6 Vancouver Aquarium & Stanley Park The underwater wonderland is home to a variety of fish and aquatic animals in natural habitats. Underwater windows provide a rare close-up view of these creatures. The aquarium is located in the famous Stanley Park, which has over 1,000 acres of dense West Coast forest. You can walk through marked trails or around the sea wall to take in the views of the boats passing by.
