Love and Lust How Easy

Can Be

In our increasingly busy lives with commitments of work and family, it is so easy to take for granted that your partner will always be there for you. And you want to keep your relationship rock solid. Right? You know that in any situation you get out of it what you are willing to put into it, and the time to give to it. This includes relationships. As time

Romantic dining

goes on, we shall explore ways of keeping your relationship and your sex life fresh, exciting and interesting, but just for today we will take a look at how to make extra time, even though there seems never enough hours in the day. Remember back to those dating days. The preparations before the date; showering, choosing the right clothes, the butterflies of anticipation. Is your life still exciting now? We all need love; whether it comes in the form of a loving embrace, a nurturing hug or the moment that lust hits you like a fist in the belly. But, how to get the time to MAKE it happen for you on a regular basis? Organisation is key. Sometimes you just gotta make things happen. Use

Romance by fire

your diary. Welcome any offers for looking after the children. Give them a warm hug and send them off for a sleepover with Grandma or a friend. Now it’s time for just you and your loving relationship. You don’t have to leave home for a date night (If there was no-one to look after the children, it’s an early night to bed for them). Now it is time for serious grown-up stuff. First home from work can cook the other’s favourite meal, set a table romantic style, with candles, flowers and those crystal glasses. A nice bottle of red, open and breathing. Get the picture?

Keep the romance alive.

Whitby Premium Wine Consultants Now that you have your lamb shanks simmering away, the next big decision is what wine should be matched with this wonderful winter dish. Most medium bodied reds make a great accompaniment with lamb dishes with Shiraz, Grenache or Cabernet best suited. My recommendation would be to select a wine which is a little different rather than simply stick with the traditional. Naturally an Italian red would be a suitable choice, but I think we should travel to Europe’s western most country and savour a superb wine from Alentejo on the South West coast of Portugal. But why not drink it now? Make sure you have plenty in the cupboard for those sumptuous winter dinners. Cheers David

Chef Dan’s Recipe www.hansensgourmet.com

Hansens Gourmet Super Simple Sensational Shanks Steps 1. Heat oil over high heat in casserole dish. 2. Season lamb with salt & pepper, then brown in dish for 2 minutes each side, or evenly brown. Remove and set aside. 3. Brown bacon in dish for 2 minutes. Add onion, garlic, rosemary & carrots and cook for 5 minutes stirring often. 4. Return shanks to dish and add red wine. Boil on high heat for 5 minutes. 5. Turn heat down to a simmer, add tin tomatoes, place lid on dish and cook slowly for 90 minutes.

You’ll Need: 1x casserole dish 3x lamb shanks (ours weighed 1.2kg) 2x brown onions, diced 2x carrots, diced 2x rashers bacon, diced

10g garlic, crushed 2 sticks fresh rosemary 400mL your favourite red wine 1x 400g tin chopped tomatoes salt & pepper to taste

(because bacon makes everything better)

6. Remove lid, stir contents & simmer for another hour, or until sauce is reduced and lamb is falling off the bone. Be careful not to let the lamb stick to the bottom of the dish. I love serving this with a mushroom risotto and crumbed blue cheese, with a glass of Boabrisa from Portugal. It will also go well with creamy mashed potato, thick ribbons of parpadelle pasta, or creamed polenta. And of course a large glass of your favourite red. Tips: Any left over sauce is delicious over pasta. Enjoy! Chef Dan

relationships and maintain social bonds with the other people in our lives.

The right gift will make your loved ones feel cherished

It is great to report that new research reveals that gifts of jewellery do strengthen relationships.

We also give gifts for no particular reason. We see something that we know our partner, family member or friend would love and buy it on an impulse. Gift giving is not rooted in materialism, but is all about nurturing our relationships.

The best gift giver will take note of little things their partner might mention through the year. Browse with them at the display windows of their favourite shops, taking mental notes (or better yet, write it down as soon as you have a private moment) of things that catch your loved ones eye. This way you are armed with inside information next time a special occasion arises for you to choose the perfect gift.

Giving gifts increases our own happiness Studies at the Savannah South University show that there is a definite emotional lift when searching for that perfect gift for someone. Equally important, when the recipient accepts the gift the sense of euphoria can be quite profound. The Scientific experiments at University of British Columbia have also found the giving of gifts actually increases our own happiness more than spending money on ourselves. It turns out that we are biologically programmed to want to make our loved ones feel treasured.

Gift giving is a social ritual In most cultures gifts accompany the major life events of marriage, births, graduations and other new beginnings. The giving of gifts exists to strengthen

Avoid the dilemma of choosing the wrong gift Have you ever opened a gift, full of the greatest expectation, only to find it was not at all what you had been hoping for? The excitement expressed on your face as you opened the package had to be replaced with a smile to mask the disappointment you felt, as you expressed your thanks. We have all known this feeling of disappointment at some time, so we must do everything we can to ensure that our loved ones don’t have to experience it, at least not on our account.

Gift giving is about strengthening relationships LUST - WINTER EDITION 2015 Page 5

THE COLOUR Gold

Gold ELICITS DESIRE

THE VERY WORD

Have you ever wondered about the colour gold? What undertones give it a glow that exude a feeling of sumptuous richness but also taps into our emotions? Gold is the colour of joy, celebration and commitment. Gold has the ability to cement memories. It marks milestones.

The sun’s golden warmth as it rises on the horizon elicits a feeling of hope and new beginnings. Perhaps you have been awed by a golden moon poised on the horizon, its reflection colouring the ocean as it ripples beneath the waves. When we choose a mango its skin must be just the right golden colour, our taste buds tingle in anticipation of its promised succulent juicy flavours.

Then there is the delicious, salty, taste of Albino White Gold Caviar, or a desert wine with a rich depth of colour and flavour. A walk over a hillside covered in pale gold poppies, or a field of deep golden tulips might colour our dreams. And, then there is a picture of beauty and gold satin blowing in the wind.

I entered the beauty industry when I left school and was presented with fantastic opportunities which I embraced early in my career. I stayed within the industry for 20 years, working in both Australia and the UK. I enjoyed these years with a busy clientele, teaching, stage work and a bridal service. In this exciting industry however, there came a time when I just knew it was time to move on. By the time I was 33 I had travelled to over 30 countries experiencing many of the world’s cultures. A number of these countries are now steeped in conflict. I moved back to Australia with a deep stirring feeling that I was capable of so much more than I was currently doing. I had accomplished so much and was eager to try something new. My circumstances in life had changed and I was sharing a house with a Japanese pearl technician. He had travelled to many different countries over 25 years culturing pearls. He was highly experienced in seeding, culturing and taking the pearls to the international wholesale market. His passion for pearls was infectious! I was captivated.

It was exactly what I was looking for! He saw my enthusiasm and offered me a position with an opportunity to set up and develop, on his behalf, a wholesale business here in Australia selling his harvests of South Sea black pearls. I ran with this opportunity and was to become the first person based in Perth to sell black South Sea pearls into the Western Australian jewellery industry, and then nationally. To learn and understand pearls and the pearl industry, I was flown to the remote islands of Manihiki and Penhryn in the Cook Islands, there I was taught the skill of seeding, harvesting and grading South Sea pearls and I learned all I could about pearl culturing. Living on these tiny tropical islands, close to nature, was a wonderful experience despite the fact that there was limited medical facilities and fresh water, and the sea level islands were vulnerable to the ravages of storms. But fresh fish, coconuts and, most particularly, pearls were abundant.... One experience I had on the island will stay with me forever. It has had a deeply profound effect on my life and my jewellery.

Imagine this... It was a hot steamy night in May 1996 and I was having trouble sleeping. I decided to get up and go to the bathroom. It was a bit of a walk from the hut I was sleeping in. As I walked along the jungle path with my trusty torch, I looked up to glance at the stars. The remoteness of the island made the sky blacker than the pearls I was grading!

The Milky Way looked spectacular as always... but there was something else that caught my eye! My quick glance turned into a gaze as I tried to comprehend what I was looking at! I had never seen anything like it before and sadly never to see again! Right there in front of me was an enormous ball of light. It was so close, so clear, with a tail of light trailing behind. I stood mesmerised by the sight for several minutes before I could awaken from my enchanted state! I continued on with my original mission and went back to bed... my head full of wonder and inspiration. With no regular news to keep us up to date with world events, it took a while to discover I had witnessed The Great Comet of 1996 (Comet Hyakutake.) What a rare sight indeed!

That night and my time on the island was the source of inspiration for Lust Pearls Because of my island experience, I have a real connection to pearls and love their simple beauty. This comes from having a deep understanding of how they are created by a living creature. To me Lust jewellery is a connection between the pearls in the lagoon and the sparkle of the light from the stars glimmering above in the Milky Way. It is the essence of the moon reflecting on the waters of the lagoon and the rareness of seeing Comet Hyakutake. (This comet is an infrequent visitor with an orbital period of 70,000 years)

time for me to step out and develop my dream of Lust jewellery. Pearls delicately inlayed with sparkling diamonds, to give you a piece of jewellery as rare and unique as you.

Hard work and the pursuit of perfection It has been a long journey to build Lust™ Pearls into the unique brand it is today. I have sold many millions of dollars worth of pearls during my career. Lust jewellery has been worn at the Oscars and even noticed by royalty. There have been many trials and tribulations. For this reason I have developed great associations within the pearling industry which allows me to source pearls unavailable to some pearl wholesalers and jewellers. However, one thing has always remained constant... my commitment to ensuring buyers of Lust jewellery have the best experience before, during and after their purchase. You see, when you buy a pearl, you should be treated like the VIP you are. You are buying a precious, unique gem that is one of a kind. Any and all questions you have need to be answered courteously and honestly. You need to know what you are buying is real and valuable. Pearls will last you a lifetime and be with you as you create memories. Your perfect pearl needs to reflect who you are and complement your individuality. Lust prides itself on its difference and individuality...

Being breast aware is part of general body awareness and learning how your breasts look and feel. It is important to know what is normal for you because everyone is different and as you go through the different stages of your life, your breasts are continually changing.

Breast changes If you notice any of these changes see your GP straight away. 1. A lump, lumpiness or thickening in the breast tissue. 2. Skin changes such as dimpling, puckering or redness. 3. Nipple changes such as an unusual discharge, the nipple pointing in rather than out (unless it has always been this way) or an itchy/ulcerated area. 4. A part of the breast that feels different from the rest of the breast. 5. A new and persistent pain.

9. Feel the entire breast tissue from your collarbone to below your bra line and into the underarm. 10. Feel near the surface and then deeper using the flat part of your fingers. 11. Did you know that the time of year when a pearl is harvested determines the quality of a pearl?

Without being too technical… quality pearls are harvested in the winter months as the host molluscs’ metabolism slows and nacre platelets become thinner as deposition of these layers decreases. This has proven time and time again to increase the lustre upon harvest. This is why we always source quality South Sea Pearls which are harvested throughout the cooler months of the year. The major areas where these white South Sea pearls come from are the pristine waters of Australia as well as Indonesia and the Philippines. Some of these areas also produce the beautiful golden pearl with Tahiti currently being the main source for the black pearl. This gives our customers the highest quality pearls which have a sharp mirror like lustre showing a high level of reflection.

Pearls are like people. They are unique. And no two are identical. When selecting your perfect pearl there are five things for you to look for: 1. Pearl Lustre – This is the mirror-like finish which your pearl reflects. Higher quality pearls have a higher quality reflection.

2. Pearl Surface Quality – As each pearl

is unique so is its surface. Even a “perfect” pearl has its own character because of the minor pits and imperfections created by Mother Nature. Be careful of flawless pearls… they are extremely rare and may have been treated in some way. Ask your seller why it is so flawless?

3. Pearl Shape – The most valuable pearls

are round or near round, though other more unique shapes can also be valuable. Your chosen setting for your pearl also determines how prestigious a design is.

LUST - WINTER EDITION 2015 Page 12

4. Pearl Colour – When looking at pearl

colour there are three basic components to inspect… these are hues, tones and saturation.

5. Pearl Nacre – The thickness quality of the

pearl is known as nacre. This is what gives your pearl its natural beauty. The thicker and smoother and more lustrous the nacre, the better and rarer your pearl will be.
