He gave the metal gate a forceful shove before walking away laughing to himself. Jack toppled backwards. A vision of farmyard poo covering his favourite top flashed before his eyes. Luckily, Holly had surprisingly quick reflexes. In a flash, he grabbed Jack’s arm and stopped him from falling. “Who was that idiot?” Jack grumbled. He was starting to feel nauseous. “The Stoneman,” Holly explained, pulling a strawberry lace out of his pocket. “He’s your typical, class ‘A’ bully.” “His nickname probably has a lot to do with his prehistoric approach to life,” Jules pointed out. “And you won’t believe how old he is? He’s in our year at school!” Martin explained. Jack groaned, knowing his luck he would end up in the same class. “You will love it in history,” enthused Holly. “Mr. Booth is brilliant...” “Are you mad or what?” Martin interrupted. “History is for wimps.” “If it wasn’t for history, then we wouldn’t know anything about Admergill being from Lancashire would we? That’s real history, anyway I’ve been thinking about it...” “You don’t say,” interrupted Martin. “Do you realise that when you grow up without an education, you will end up without a job and no money,” Holly pointed out. 42
