Note which students had difficulty using strong verbs in their personal narratives. Use the Reteach option with those students who need additional reinforcement. Practice Book page 134 provides additional work using strong verbs.
Reteach
Ask volunteers to read aloud sentences from their personal narratives and point out the strong verbs. Challenge students to suggest other strong verbs for each sentence. Students should demonstrate the ability to use strong verbs in a personal narrative.
Describe an exciting event that has happened to you. When you have finished, ask students if they could visualize the experience that you described based on the words you used. Invite students to draw pictures of the event and list strong verbs that describe each picture. Then ask students to retell the event, using the strong verbs and the pictures.
I Can See It All Now Play a radio sportscast for students. Explain that it is important for radio announcers to use strong verbs when describing a game because the audience cannot see the action. Have students list verbs that the announcers use. Then ask students to role-play each action being described. ACTIVITY D Choose a verb from the word box to complete each sentence.
