If you wish to have children complete the small-group project on page S-27B, have small groups begin now. Allow time on days 1 to 5 for children to work.

Materials: writing supplies, art supplies Have children write a prayer of their own that might help them grow closer to Jesus during Ordinary Time. Tell children their prayers can be prayers of petition, thanksgiving, or adoration. Encourage children to write a complex prayer in the form of a song or a poem. Then have children decorate their prayers. Suggest that children share their prayers with family members and pray the prayers during Ordinary Time.

Materials: Bibles, writing supplies, art supplies Give children a list of the Gospel readings for one month during Ordinary Time. They can be found at www.usccb.org/nab/. Have children choose one reading and find a verse. Ask children to share the verse and tell why they chose it. Have them illuminate the verses and display the illuminations. Encourage children to reflect on that verse silently each Sunday at Mass throughout Ordinary Time.

Materials: writing supplies Take children on a tour of the church. Have them sit quietly in the pews and draw a diagram of the sanctuary and the other things they see. Have children label each item. When you return to the classroom, have children share their diagrams and tell how or when each object is used during Mass.
