1. Ask students to consider the life

of Jesus. What are some ways your lives are like Jesus’ life? How are your lives different? [Allow time for student responses. Same: Jesus experienced fear and joy; different: Jesus always did the will of his Father.] How might knowing that Jesus was like you in so many ways help you trust him? (Possible answers: He understands me; he knows what I am going through.)

Sin offends God and hurts our relationship with him. Sin also hurts our relationships among people.

Fasting is a practice many Catholics use to try to resist the temptation to sin. One common form of fasting is to abstain from eating meat on Fridays, especially during Lent. Catholics also fast by giving up things they enjoy as a sacrifice to God.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15
