A Catholic to Know Vincent de Paul was born in 1580 in France. Vincent was appointed the court chaplain to Queen Margaret of Valois. For years, he lived a life of wealth and comfort. However, when he heard the confession of a dying servant, Vincent opened his eyes to the fact that the spiritual needs of the French peasantry were not being met. He devoted the remainder of his life to caring for those who were poor. He established societies and charities to perform the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy by establishing hospitals, orphanages, and homes for those who were mentally ill. Saint Vincent de Paul is the patron of all charitable societies. Many parishes have a St. Vincent de Paul Society that serves those who are poor and in need.

My Way to Faith • I believe that Jesus brings me peace even when I am hurting. • I volunteer for tasks when I think I can be helpful. • I share my gifts with people who are in need. • I follow Jesus as my role model. • I admire people who follow in Christ’s footsteps by sacrificing for others.

Share Your Faith We follow in Christ’s footsteps by proclaiming his message with our deeds. Consider the things you do. How do they proclaim your faith? Write about one deed on the lines. Invite others to share their faith with you.
