A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Lowndes High School Students, Parents, and Community,

We are looking forward to an amazing 2021-2022 school year! With the NEW LHS nearing completion, we are excited about our mid-year move into this state-of-the-art facility. In our commitment to provide students with an outstanding high school experience, the new building will include 65 classrooms, Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) technology for real-world applications, a 900-seat performing arts center, a media center with makerspaces and a coffee shop, and collaboration areas for group learning activities.

LHS teachers, counselors, and administrators welcome the opportunity to teach, challenge, and inspire students! We are dedicated to continuous learning and supporting student success. Our faculty meets regularly in Professional Learning Communities to develop research-based instructional plans, discuss teaching strategies for engaged learning, and analyze student performance. All students receive a Chromebook device to further enhance online learning, flipped classroom instruction, and student technology skills. During VIP time, students complete academic, SEL and career-readiness lessons as they prepare for life after high school.

To support families, LHS guidance counselors are available to discuss academic programming including Advanced Placement courses, post-secondary options for Dual Enrollment, and CTAE career pathway courses designed for workplace readiness. Our counselors are also available to meet with students to support their social and emotional well-being.

LHS provides numerous extracurricular activities to expand the high school experience for our students. We offer 21 competitive sports programs including E-Sports. Our fine arts programs include the Georgia Bridgemen marching band with 450 members, One Act Play, chorus concerts, art exhibitions, and musical productions. We offer several academic competition teams including BETA, Model UN, Science Olympiad, Mock Trial, Literary, and Math Team. Our Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) student organizations include FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, HOSA, TSA, Skills USA, and AFJROTC. We also offer an array of social clubs to support student interests such as archery, Y-club, Key club, Paws & Claws, fishing, and others. Please be sure to visit the LHS Clubs and Extracurricular Activities section for a full list of opportunities.

I hope that you will take time to read The Voyage Academic Guide to see all that LHS has to offer our students. As always, if you have any questions or ideas to share, please do not hesitate to call me at (229) 245-2260 or email at leannemccall@lowndes.k12.ga.us.

Warmest Regards, LeAnne McCall

LeAnne McCall, Principal Lowndes High School
