Fassino Fund
In honor of the decades of generous support from The Fassino Foundation, Lovelane is pleased to announce the creation of The Fassino Fund. The intended purpose of this non-restricted fund is to raise, save, invest and use the funds for the purchase of horses and the maintenance and upkeep of the property and buildings at Lovelane’s Baker Bridge home for years to come.
As you will read in the pages ahead, Lovelane’s support comes in many forms. We are forever humbled and grateful for the outpouring of devotion and commitment from each of you! From the 9,000 volunteer hours, to the networking and advocacy on behalf of Lovelane, and the monies raised and donated; small and large, each effort directly supports our mission of impacting and enhancing the lives of the children and families we serve. We see the benefits of your support each day in the forms of a child; who avoids surgery because of the gained strength from therapeutic riding, communicates first words on horseback, sits unaided, feels confident and empowered, among hundreds of other benefits towards their independence and opportunity to thrive. For this- We thank you! On behalf of the entire staff and Board of Directors, we extend our heartfelt thank you for your contributions, your time, efforts and support. They truly make a difference in the lives of the children and families.

Our Mission: In a fun, supportive environment, Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program provides high-quality therapeutic horseback riding to achieve occupational, physical, speech, cognitive and other therapeutic gains, focusing on children with special needs.

Thirteen years after opening, maintaining our facility remains a top priority. This year we invested in two huge projects: new fencing for our paddocks ($43,081) and replacing the footing in our indoor arena, creating a safer, quieter atmosphere for our students, horses and volunteers ($44,066). Thanks to the Wheatland Charitable Trust and The Fassino Fund for making these facility improvements possible. Lovelane was designed specifically for the special needs population and always puts safety and accessibility for our clients first.
Lovelane graciously acknowledges all contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations who invested in our mission and program between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017.

Thanks to our generous donors, in May 2017 we reached our $5 million goal for the Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund. This fund, launched in September 2012, is named for Lovelane’s Founder, Debby Sabin’s deceased father. Dr. Sabin was a beloved founding member of Lovelane’s Board of Directors and a renowned local physician. The Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund will now provide Lovelane a reserve of $5M. Interest on the Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund of roughly $150,000 annually can supplement our annual operating budget and will allow a cushion for emergencies, as well as fund capital improvements. We are grateful to all of our Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund donors for helping to ensure Lovelane will continue to provide pediatric therapeutic services for years to come! THANK YOU!

It all began with a boy and his horse. Daniel and Trav proved to be a formidable duo. There was nothing quite like Daniel’s smile and Trav’s toothy grin when they were around each other. When Daniel was just 16 months old, he was diagnosed with Ataxia Telganiectasia. His physical therapist recommended finding a place where therapeutic horseback riding might strengthen and improve his trunk support. Daniel began weekly lessons at Lovelane when he was just 6 years old and rode until he was 21 when advanced Lymphoma left him too weak to ride. He rode many horses over the years but bonded with Trav who we are convinced recognized Daniel and his wheelchair. It was not just Trav that Daniel bonded with. It was also the amazing group of staff and volunteers who made it more than just a lesson. It was the theme days, sports trivia and impromptu games that made “therapy” the highlight of Daniel’s week. Daniel was an informed sports enthusiast, which made for a lot of extra-work each week for the amazing instructors and volunteers because they had to be up to date on all sports before Daniel’s lessons. We will never forget those same instructors and volunteers coming to our home to visit Daniel when he could no longer make it back to Lovelane for visits. To all our family and friends who made donations to Lovelane in loving memory of Daniel, we say a heartfelt thank you. Lovelane was a very special place for Daniel. A place that welcomed him with no thought to his limitations, only his possibilities. Lovelane will always be special to our family and we hope you will join us in supporting Lovelane in the future. Reaching Great Heights Avani Kabra had three goals: summit Mount Kilimanjaro, raise $30,000 to benefit Lovelane’s program and create awareness for therapeutic horseback riding. Ambitious? Especially if you are 15 years old! In July 2017 Avani accomplished all three of these goals and even exceeded her $30,000 goal!

Avani’s brother, Rohan, has cerebral palsy, and has benefited enormously from his hard work at Lovelane over the past three years. Avani and her family attribute therapeutic horseback riding to Rohan’s progress and the independence he is gaining. Avani says, “the therapeutic horseback riding that Lovelane provides for children with special needs cannot be matched by other traditional types of therapy so I am very grateful for what Lovelane has done for Rohan and children like him.”

Lovelane is enormously reliant on the dedication, skill, and generosity of an extraordinary army of volunteers. Nearly 100 volunteers commit weekly time to joining us in the ring, in the barn, at events, in the office and on the Board. Simply put, there is no way that we could keep our doors open and our riders safe without these incredible individuals. Whole families join us and generations of volunteers have worked tirelessly at our side. They become a part of the ‘therapy team’ in the ring and bond with their students. They help shovel us out in the winter, they work during our fundraising events, they muck stalls in the blazing heat... and the list goes on. We are so very grateful for each of our volunteers.
