BUILDING IN MARBELLA

While a lot of people might still associate Spanish – and in particular Andalucian – construction with white-plastered walls and terracotta tiles, the reality is that over the past decade the processes and materials used have been modernised and improved greatly. These days Spanish construction has evolved right up to the build standards common in other parts of Europe and, when it comes to bathrooms, terraces and pool areas, it has retained its traditional Mediterranean advantage in terms of quality, luxury and styling. Quality control, however, remains as important as ever, and today consumers are better protected as Spanish regulations have come into line with the rest of western Europe in defining the roles and responsibilities of the various parties involved in the

construction of a property. These naturally include the construction firms, specialist technicians and suppliers of building materials, but also professionals such as architects and commercial entities like the promoters. Such clearly defined roles and quality, against which each of the above are expected to work, not only makes the entire process more transparent but also easier for those buying or building their home to redress possible complaints.
