LISTENING PALMS Stay Connected! Positioned strategically throughout the Parc, these canny trees are in-fact radio towers that gather and distribute the light. Offering wifi where-ever you might be, just remember to read the T’s+C’s when you connect . . . Some Listening Palms are also Projecting Palms, offering customisable light projection using the Parc App.

ENERGY COPSE The energy copse will gernerate the power needed to run the parc, they will also provide light during the dark, moon-less nights.

SO THE TREES LIGHT UP AT NIGHT + GATHER ENERGY BY DAY NO, NOT MAGIC OLED TECHNOLOGY

BEACH DAIS The Beach Dais offers enhanced beach features, with levels of seating that include charging points, a large sea stage and the Parc wifi. Performances are held each day in the summer, locals organise lowtide performances of favourite plays during winter months. Lighting is provided via the Energy Trees and projectors + speakers mounted upon the Listening Palms.

Pulling the music behind them, the floating stage for club promoters.

Life’s a Beach

THE SEA IS A STAGE THE BEACH IS THE AUDIENCE NOW YOU STAND, PARADE WE ALL WATCH YOU

Watch the Story. The sea is maintained at a depth of 3ft creating a large stage to watch the current culture to play out. When the tide is out this becomes a place to watch local plays. Seating, Sunning Each level provides a 2m deep platform with 500mm of sand. Allowing for both seated and prone positions when viewing. Water from the Feixes filters through, keeping the sand cool. Main Promenade. Linking the Harbour + Parking to the centre of Ibiza is a stretch of sand, interspersed with Quietest Room beach huts. Power-up. Power sockets are located within waterproof housings every 5m along the beach seating.

GARDEN OF TRUTHS The Sand Dune Domes act like neolithic stone circles, reflecting sounds from other conversations [amplified by speakers set into the structure]. The intimate circular form invites you to sit in groups, knees together, until the fantasies fall from you.

Dejeuner sur l’herbe [des verites]

Other Peoples Fantasies [speaker] Like a Mirror Sandstone Highly Polished to reflect light from personal devices Listening in [microphone] HUSH Sand absorbs excess sound, to cloister each dome Forget-me-not Storage Flower

All around you stories are being planted, a new type of flower in the wetland. Pluck one out, scan the stories on your device. Take one home, put it in your hair, give it as a token.

Form-work creates a void in which the sand is poured, followed by the bacteria.

A mesh of steel gives structural integrity. > Saturating sand in the micro-organism Bacillus Pasteurii causes the sand to become sandstone. The process takes 24 hours after which the bacteria dies. > The Speakers + Receivers are placed in the form-work, then filled with sand from the Quarry’s,before the bacteria is flushed through. > Due to the process each dome will have its own unique properties.

LOTS OF QUIET ‘beach huts’ Sunk into the sand of the beach, these huts are constructed in a similar fashion to the Sand-Dune Domes. Their convoluted form acts to absorb sound, and is extruded up, creating a small opening above for limited light. Each corner is designed for one person to sit and invites personal reflection.

WORD WORD SILO SILO A lung that survives on the stories, the silo has a central core that houses the processors, which fill with the stories gathered from the Parc. The shiny skin is kept inflated via a wind-catcher, the pressure created by the hot air from the processors. Inside the stories are projected real time as they are encoded ready to be etched onto the Quartz Glass in the Etching Facility.

WINTER

Prevailing Wind

Heat is directed through the lower processors to warm the populated area.

During the winter local residents could create a sauna by filling the processors with their stories and heating up the misters.

Heat is directed through the higher processors to keep the populated area cool. Mist also cools the space.

In the summer the Silo would be more popular on cooler days, and at night.

A concrete structure supported with a steel frame.

Windy days would ruffle the Mylar but the fixings at top and bottom would prevent it from caving in. The wind catcher would also fill the space up, creating a resitance force.

ETCHING ETCHING FACILITY FACILITY

Bird Drone Is it a bird? Is it a drone? Holding glass sheets of stories to be deposited within the Parc, within the classifications. HOLOGRAMS create illusions, dissolutions. Excavation Sand from the nearby quarry’s is piled up. Receiving Encoded stories are received from the Word Silo. Images are sent to the BillBoards.

Melting The silica sand is place in a crucible and fired in a gas furnace at 2,300’C. Casting The melted silica is poured into a mould to cool. Etching The Quartz brick is then placed into the etching machine to be covered with stories. Placement The Quartz brick or Forget-me-not Flower is then placed within the Parc by a Bird drone. Cooling These towers allow for windcatcher and stack effect cooling, the Bird Drones also fly out of here. Billboards provide a vision of the past Which is also a vision of the future. This uses an LED screen which shows the day passing.. but that day might be from a year ago, or yesterday. Either way, its not now.

Process

Separation The Sand is put through a sieve which separates the sand from the silica.

LOTS OF SANDSTONE QUARRYS QUARTZ GLASS LASTS FOREVER ETCHING ON THE CAPTURED STORIES STORIES THAT WILL LAST FOREVER

the ARCHIVE Once placed within the parc, the quartz bricks form fragmented walls. Information is arranged by Category, these can be viewed through the mobile device. Reading the data bricks is also done via a personal device. Eventually the wetland will be full of the past, but instead of rushes and reeds, porous walls will sway in the wind.

INFORMATION IS BEAUTIFUL ITS ALSO UNSTABLE AND EASILY FORGOTTON

Revealing the Categories

The Walls Begin to Take Shape as Fantasies, Fables, Truths and Fears fall from the Visitors and their Devices.

Exploring the Stories 1.5 Quartz Data Brick Etched on both sides with stories to read and interpret. Archive Scaffolding Clear cast acrylic tubes are fed deep into the ground, supported with a concrete footing akin to the roots of the rushes. Keeping the Gap Clear silicon stoppers are placed below the brick to hold it in place. Device = Interpreter Much like the Bible translates stained glass windows, the Personal Device translates the etchings, bringing the stories to life.

The Archive Grows

What is the future of the past? Stories fill virtual walls, these fill large elusive data centres, data centres are private, the stories are public, these private realms have a short lifespan - suddenly our culture is erased by a digital dark-age. Meanwhile a Wetland is recovered and people come to it and the stories they have are taken from them and shared but in fact its not just a Wetland, it was destined for something else, an archive and if you wait for a glitch you might see it, until it finally becomes the ruin it was meant to be... An Archive, A Parc, A Monument to Ibiza.

The Ruin it Was Always Supposed To Be Google Street View from the Car Park [in the Evening]
