Toronto ma wiele twarzy – to największa metropolia Kanady, w której rośnie 10 mln drzew. Znajdziemy tu i największe podziemne centrum handlowe PATH, i urocze małe dzielnice zamieszkane przez najbardziej wielokulturową populację na świecie.

Toronto has many faces - it is Canada's largest metropolis but has 10 million trees. It has the world’s biggest underground shopping complex (PATH) and charming little neighbourhoods inhabited by the most multicultural population in the world.

Toronto, choć usytuowane „tylko” nad jeziorem, wygląda właściwie jak miejscowość nadmorska.

Ontario, bo o tym zbiorniku mowa, należy do pięciu Wielkich Jezior na pograniczu Kanady i USA. To jeden z największych rezerwuarów słodkiej wody na naszej planecie. Każde z Jezior jest olbrzymie, a Ontario, choć najmniejsze z całej piątki, nie jest wyjątkiem. W jego pobliżu mieszka jedna czwarta populacji Kanady, z czego większość – w aglomeracji Toronto i miast satelitarnych zwanej Golden Horseshoe.

In cities located by the water, you can eng spend truly interesting time and – importantly - eat well. Toronto might "only" be located by a lake, but actually looks like a seaside city. Ontario, because that’s the lake we’re talking about it, belongs to the five Great Lakes on the border of Canada and the USA. It is one of the largest fresh water reservoirs on the planet. Each of the Lakes is huge, and Ontario, while the smallest of the five, is no exception.

Although Toronto is situated on freshwater, oysters are as popular here as they are in coastal cities.

Z bliskości „wielkiej wody” skorzystacie na wiele sposobów. W mieście działa ok. 20 targów rybnych, a w restauracjach serwujących owoce morza można przebierać jak w ulęgałkach. Do najlepszych należą Rodney’s Oyster House i Joso’s. Nie ma też przeszkód, by uprawiać sporty wodne – mieszkańcy je uwielbiają, zwłaszcza w czasie letnich miesięcy, które potrafią być w Toronto zaskakująco gorące. Kajaki, kanu i deski paddleboard są tu powszechne. Podobnie jak wypożyczalnie wszelkiego wodnego sprzętu, łącznie z jachtami i świecącymi w ciemności kajakami – bo czemu nie popływać po zmroku? Ale to tylko jedno z oblicz Toronto, które zamieszkują przedstawiciele ponad 200 narodów i grup etnicznych – od Aborygenów po Portugalczyków i oczywiście Polaków. Tych żyje tu ponad 100 tys. Miasto szczyci się, że jest jednym z najbardziej multikulturowych miejsc świata. Ponad 50 proc. torontończyków to przyjezdni – najwyraźniej wszyscy czują się tu świetnie.

The Toronto Islands are the 15 green islands on Lake Ontario. There are regular ferry connections to the islands from the city center.

You can take advantage of the proximity of the "great water" in many ways. There are about twenty fish markets in the city, and you can pick seafood restaurants like cherries. The best ones are Rodney's Oyster House and Joso's. You can also enjoy all kinds of water sports – the locals love them, especially during summer, which can be surprisingly hot. Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards are common here. The same goes for all water equipment, including yachts and glowing kayaks – why not go sailing after dark? But this is just one of the many faces of Toronto – the residents come from dozens of nations and are made up of many ethnic groups - from Aborigines to Portuguese and, of course, Poles. Over a hundred thousand of them live here. The city prides itself on being one of the most multicultural places in the world. Over 50 percent of Torontonians are immigrants - apparently everyone feels great in this city.
