WORK

ABOUT MY WORK Throughout my education and professional career I sought out opportunities to engage in projects that offered realistic and feasible solutions to real-life problems. I strive to explore practical solutions that incorporate the use of alternative construction methods and building materials. I developed an interest in interdisciplinary challenges that demand thoughtful, innovative responses. The knowledge I acquired has become a key element to my formation and growth as an architect as it has given me better awareness of the multifaceted circumstances surrounding a project. INFILL HOUSING KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE Oakwood-Lincoln Park Historic Neigborhood UTK College of Architecture and Design Role: Project Designer

The project is a result of the zoning codes and the infill guidelines combined with a bioclimatic approach to promote a more sustainable housing architecture using the natural environment to our benefit. The sites selected are in a sub-urban area without strong historical context. This brings an opportunity for development of a new pattern of style, design and relationships with the site and the future structures. The bioclimatic approach to the design of passive systems of cooling, heating and lighting made us analyze the sun and wind behavior during the year. Thus, south facing glassing and the use of terraces as an exterior gathering private space in other to ameliorate cost Is a great strategy for small housing developments where every square foot counts.

MACAU [SAR 3.0] LAKE NAM VAN, MACAU BUREAU OF [SUB]CONS CIOUS VALUATION UTK College of Architecture and Design Spring 2017

Macau is a special Administrative Region in the South China Sea. Besides being an autonomous region, Macau is also a heterotrophic region which means it doesn’t possess the natural resources or land for the production or manufacturing industries, making them completely dependent on importation. Since 1999 when Macau became an independent region from Portugal, its economy bloomed with the casino and touristic industry. The importation of capital goods dropped considerately when they decided to stop fabrication and became a Service oriented economy. To do a more comprehensive analysis on Macau’s Special and interesting situation, the used of virtual water as a concept to quantify and understand Macau’s economic and trade system as a Valuation System. 37

MACAU [SAR 2.1]

MAP OF MACAU [SAR 2.0] WATER RESERVOIRS

As part of the program and having a natural resource as the driving force I created a dependency of this department in Macau to help with its special condition and I named it as The Bureau Of Subconcious Valuation. Virtual Water is a Post Truth concept, and like value, it depends on the approval and sentiment or a large collective group. Value as Virtual water connects to my initial Aphorism of the Post-Truth: As Guy Debord wrote, “The Spectacle is capital accumulated to the point it becomes images”, therefore I claim that Posttruth is image to the point It becomes territories. Post truth is used as a concept to define or represent the idea of value in the context of Macau. Virtual water is used as a valuation mechanism to quantify scales, magnitudes and intensities of materiality.

BUREAU OF [SUB]CONSCIOUS VALUATION

My project shows a juxtaposition of ideas of something so immaterial like Virtual Water being used to express magnitudes and activities so material and real like manufacturing, agriculture and in my case, the making of territories. The main focus is the mining of the sub land to extend the waterline to augment its property value, and at the same time it creates an underwater entity in order to hold the dependency where Virtual Water is the Valuation Mechanism use to quantify this magnitude of materials. The project occurs below the mean seal level only surfacing to expand the cultural and touristic area. The project is a speculative design that intents to play with architectural provocation creating spaces that exist in the surreal and the subconscious. It is a physical way to interpret and understand Value in Macau, where the intangible meets the tangible in a way to solidify a Post-Truth concept and make it reliable.
