Contreras Parents, Caregivers, and Staff Members, It is my pleasure to be acquainted with your student(s) this year. I currently teach the College and Career Readiness class for sixth through eighth grade. It is our goal this year to have the class focus on getting ready for the Science state tests. This means that most of our classes will implement the Discovery Education program along with the constructed responses portion of the past years state tests to facilitate a clear learning objective for our students. One of my main concerns is that all students bring a freshly charged laptop to school or bring their charging cord so that they may work in my class. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to call, email, or make an appointment to visit our class. I graduated from Cleveland State University in 2009. I am a proud Viking Alumni whose education was rooted in the idea that students from urban environments can succeed with the proper guidance and expectations both in and out of the classroom. A couple of quotes that I live by are listed below. “I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world.” ― Tupac Shakur “Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one” ― Bruce Lee

Welcome Letter

SOUTHVIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. This is sure to be an exciting school year marked by increasing student achievement, supporting school and community connections and forging meaningful relationships that will benefit our scholars and staff. I’d like to start by giving a brief introduction. Personally, I was born in Detroit, Michigan and am the product of the Detroit Public School system. Being raised by my grandparents, I was exposed at an early age to the value of hard work through their professions in the auto industry. A love for education and the value of an honest day’s work was ingrained in me as I saw the daily example of my grandmother. I received my Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education and eventually my Master’s degree in K12 Educational Administration from Michigan State University. Working in education for over ten years and serving diverse populations of students in rural, suburban and urban communities, I am passionate about student learning. Serving as a principal in the Cleveland area for the last five years spanning kindergarten through twelfth grade, I am committed to supporting students and educators as we embrace building a transformative educational experience marked by student achievement. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, being active in my faith community, listening to all genres of music and attending concerts. As a staff we are elated to be driven by a unifying vision laid out in the Lorain Promise. Using this document as our roadmap, we will ensure that our core values of keeping scholars first, expecting excellence, having a one for all attitude, collaborating with integrity, experiencing joy and taking pride in our work are at the heart of every decision that we make. We are looking forward to meeting with scholars and families at Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Directly following conferences we will have our Title One Parent Meeting in the cafeteria. I hope to see you there! Serving in Educational Excellence,

Brittiany A. Sanford Principal, Southview Middle School
