Two Sheffield school children received personal congratulations from Sheffield Lord Mayor, Councillor Gail Smith, after they beat over 100 entries to become the winners of a now annual childrens’ art competition. The event was organised by leading Sheffield law firm Graysons as part of their sponsorship of the city’s celebrated Art In The Gardens event. Harry Simpson of Forge Valley School, who won the over 9s competition, was joined by under 9s winner Kiera Wade of St Wilfreds Primary School. The competition was judged by local artist Alan Pennington who helped organise the event. Peter Clark, managing partner of Graysons, said: “It has been a real privilege to be involved in Art In The Gardens and one of the highlights has definitely been organising the kids’ art competition. The standard of entry was incredibly high once again and we had a bumper number of entries. There’s no doubt Harry and Kiera were worthy winners”. Graysons have been sponsors of Art In The Gardens for the past three years. Concerned residents Haywood Lane, Deepcar An outline application has been re-submitted to Sheffield City Council Planning Department (21/02283/0UT) to build five 3 and 4 bedroom houses on the deeply slopping hillside on Haywood Lane. With the deadline for objections being the 16 February. The residents, along with Deepcar Councillor Mark Whittaker, are keen for everyone to voice their concerns on the Sheffield Council Planning website. The lane is used as a rat run by cars and lorries and simply cannot take any more traffic for. Parts of the road does not have any pavement and is very narrow, especially at the proposed entrance to the development. Any development will increase the safety risk with the large construction vehicles that would be required to develop such a difficult area of land, as well as the disruption and lengthy road closures that would be required .
