museum upgrade Plans have been revealed for upgrades to three Grade II listed buildings at a South Yorkshire museum. Barnsley's Elsecar Heritage Centre was awarded almost £4m by the Arts Council to turn it into an "internationally recognised visitor destination". A planning application has been submitted to revamp two mill buildings and a 19th Century railway station. The station, which is currently a children's nursery, will become "creative workspaces". The site is a former ironworks built in the 1850s. It was purchased by the council in 1988 and turned into a living history centre celebrating the former coal mining area's industrial past. The Victorian buildings also host shops, businesses and studios.
