For some, January can feel like a bit of an anti-climax after all the fun however I choose to grab this first month of the year by the horns and throw into action all the plans and ideas I have buzzing around in my head. The first of which is to start growing my new business venture, ‘Makes Scents Fragrances’. I was introduced to the business towards the end of last year and I loved the products so much, I decided to start retailing them myself. So I can now offer you a huge selection of designer inspired perfume scents at a much cheaper price! Let me know your favourite, be it Coco Mademoiselle, Creed Aventus for him/her, Dior Sauvage, and I’ll be able to sort you out with a match. To view the whole range please join my Facebook Group (Makes Scents Fragrances) or if you’re interested in earning some residual income and want to try something new in 2020 please get in touch. The business is totally FREE to join and you never know, it could be just the opportunity you’ve been looking for! The new year is also a great time to make changes in the home so if you’re looking for some inspiration on how to give your kitchen a face lift, check out our Get the Look feature on page 21. And If you’re looking to increase your customer base during 2020 then why not give me a call to find out how Look Local Magazine can help your business grow. In conjunction with the magazine I offer a Printing & Design service as well as Social Media and Marketing Support so please do contact me for rates or I would welcome a meeting with you to discuss your business goals in more detail to draw up a marketing plan for you. are they the same thing..? By Jemma Stevens of Flawsome Jem

Scientifically and genetically, they are the same plant that has been cultivated in different ways to achieve different effects. So what makes them different? Why is one legal and the other is illegal? THC , or to use its full name, Tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of at least 113 cannabinoids identified in cannabis and the principal psychoactive constituent of the plant. In other words, its the part that gets you ‘high’ and most cannabis plants produce between 5-20% THC, with some strains producing as much as 20-30%. Hemp on the other hand, is an industrial food crop that is sold under licence within the UK as it produces less than 0.2% THC. But both are from the cannabis family! Medical cannabis plants have been bred selectively over years with a lot of trial and error, to produce female flowering plants - the yield budding flowers - and these buds are what contains large quantities of THC. Whilst hemp plants are tall, they don’t produce any flowering buds and contain only trace amounts of THC. The hemp plant is legally grown all over the world and can be used to produce many products, such as, textiles, building materials, food and supplements. Hemp oil products are often described as cannabis oil products, which is technically true as they are derived from the cannabis plant, but they are in fact very different. The purest and most potent CBD comes from ‘aerial parts’, which is flowers and leaves. CBD and other cannabinoids are extracted from these parts of the plants in many different ways but CO2 is the best way and the one you should be looking for. Hemp seed oil, is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant, just as the name suggests, and actually contains no CBD! It is high in anti-oxidants, Omega 3 & Omega 6 fatty acids, making it a great addition to your diet, but it should not be confused with CBD oil. They are both food supplements for better health, so mixing them up won’t cause you any harm, but you may not get the desired results if using Hemp seed oil instead of CBD oil.

Interesting Fact: A reason why cannabinoids appear to help with so many illnesses is because prior to prohibition of cannabis in 1937 when corruption and politics secretly placed hemp alongside marijuana, they were part of the human food chain. Dairy cows ate feral hemp, which was rich in CBD and passed the CBD to humans through their milk, eggs, cheese and meat. The prohibition of cannabis actually fuelled sickness and disease around the world because humans weren’t getting the necessary amount of CBD needed for the endocannabinoid system, which causes a deficiency called CED. Many autoimmune issues that plague us today simply didn’t exist prior to 1937, which is proof that CBD is NEEDED for your body! I hope this articles has helped to highlight the difference between hemp and cannabis however if you have any hemp, CBD or cannabis related questions please email me at jem@flawsomejem.com or reach out to me via my website www.flawsomejem.com, where you will also find a wide range of high quality lab tested CBD Products.

Please mention Look Local Magazine when responding to adverts.

PLEASE NOTE: CBD is neither a medicine nor a cure for any illness and by no means do we make any medical claims. CBD can help to maintain and support your health and a healthy lifestyle.

HOMEOPATHY - “It has made a huge difference to our lives’

When the body’s natural healing energy becomes stuck, a homeopathic remedy is given. The similar energy of the remedy acts as the catalyst which gets the body’s own forces going again, enabling the natural healing process to continue to repair, renewal and recover. In this article, a client of Selina Hatherley’s, Homeopathic Therapist at Thame Therapy Clinic, talks about the positive impact this therapy, in particular Vega Testing, had on her teenage daughters life. My daughter was 14 years old, when this first started, three years ago. It was during the summer with only a few episodes of swelling of the eyes. It just appeared to be a mild symptom of hay fever, and her symptoms were treated effectively with antihistamine. The following summer, the symptoms worsened and the swelling had also extended from her eyes to lips. These episodes had increased, and was also accompanied by hives and a feeling of being unwell and heavy. These episodes would take approximately 2-3 days for the swelling to settle, and she had to take time out of school. We saw an allergy specialist, who did various food tests, but the results were negative. She was prescribed antihistamine, but the downside of this was that they made her drowsy. We worked out that every time she went outside, the reaction would start up. She started to stay inside more, either to avoid the reaction or recovering from a flare up. It was hard for all of us, but thought there had to be an answer. I found Selina Hatherley whilst searching for a registered homeopath online, and made an appointment for us to see her. I noticed that she did Vega testing, which I thought may lead us to some answers. My daughter was tested by Selina, which was an easy non-invasive procedure. She was shown to have a reaction to a number of pollens and birch trees. The pollen and tree reaction, explained her allergy symptoms. Selina prescribed her homeopathic remedies. Within a week, my daughter had taken her last antihistamine, which previously, she had taken daily and the dosage increased when she had a reaction. She has been free of any of the symptoms experienced from before. She had felt nervous about going out, because of how it would make her feel after. She is now going out to fields and meeting with friends and feels so much better and her confidence is coming back again.

We can only thank Selina so much for helping us, as it has made a huge difference to our lives.

Vega testing can help identify substance which cause symptoms, such as hayfever and IBS, and homeopathy can help your symptoms. For more information contact Thame Therapy Clinic on 01844 215555 or visit www.oxhom.com or www.thametherapyclinic.co.uk

Wishing all Look Local readers a very Happy and Healthy New Year

S U n u

The beginning of a new year is a time for resolutions and a wish to GET FIT, IMPROVE FITNESS LEVELS or simply a realise a desire to feel BETTER. Find out this year how Bowen Therapy may help you achieve some of your lifestyle wishes.

W W t s o fe

Bowen Therapy / Neurostructural Integrative Technique (NST) is a

dynamic, hands - on, non-invasive remedial therapy. This treatment is an alternative medical system that utilises gentle, but powerful soft tissue activations that aid the body in self-healing mechanisms. There is no manipulation, no awkward bending, twisting or repositioning of the client. The experience of a treatment is subtle and relaxing. Clients report a decrease in pain, im-provement of function, recovery of energy and an improved feeling of wellbeing

C Y c is k s

Bowen / NST is suitable for clients of all ages - from tiny babies through to those with chronic conditions and the elderly. January brings an increase in sporting challenges - for the very unfit to extreme pursuits Bowen may help avoid injuries and support the body through challenging changes. My Son is running his first London Marathon and I’m hoping to support him through training, as indeed i have with several clients over the last few years!

A recent testimonial: “For years I have been deaf in one ear, which the medics identified as nerve damage. After 3 treatments ( with TMJ procedures ) I am able to identify sounds and can respond to questions with my good ear blocking out sound”

Positive news from 2019: The year saw many reports regarding the reduction of invasive surgery, injections, scans and medication for back, knee and shoulder problems. NICE guidelines continue to recommend that the first line of action for medics is to advise patients on lifestyle changes to help improve certain conditions, including soft tissue therapy, return to work, exercise and diet. Towards the end of 2019 I treated many clients with back, shoulder, knee and ankle issues, with resolution. Those with chronic conditions continue with regular treatments, often resulting in the ability to manage a ‘normal’ work/lifestyle balance, along with the uptake of fitness and yoga classes. I am currently treating a young lady wishing to conceive naturally, we are following the hormonal procedure during treatment and are hoping for a positive outcome in the next few months. She has responded to treatment with improved sleep patterns, mood improvement, warm hands and feet (previously cold) - her body is rebalancing! With all my clients, my aim is to work with the presenting issues, to try and alleviate DIS-EASE in the body. Once resolved many clients come back for regular maintenance sessions and are able to increase their levels of physical activity and resumption of a comfortable work/ lifestyle balance.

Windows 7 Comes To An End

Still Using Windows 7? Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. As of January 14th 2020, Microsoft is no longer providing updates and security patches for Windows 7. That means, if you haven't upgraded already, you are running an operating system that is no longer secure. What Does the Windows 7 End of Life Mean? When Microsoft ends its support of Windows 7, it means the cessation of all support, paid and unpaid, for the operating system. Up to January 14th 2020, the company offers “extended support,” meaning paid support only. It no longer offers complimentary support that may have been included in software license or licensing programs but, up to this date, it continues to provide security updates but no new design or feature improvements. Can I Use Windows 7 After Microsoft Ends Support? You can certainly continue to use Windows 7 after Microsoft stops its support. However, you do so at considerable risk. One of the most important parts of managing your operating system is to ensure that it is protected from viruses, malware and other nasty infections that can derail your technology. Hackers know that Windows 7 is ending and will be looking to exploit the lack of updates and attack computer systems still using the operating system. What Other Impacts Are There to Stopping Support? When Microsoft stops supporting an operating system, it’s a signal to other software developers and hardware companies to stop providing upgrades and updates to their products on the Windows 7 OS too. Whilst that support may linger beyond the January 2020 date, it’s likely to end at some point. In addition, newer hardware components and peripherals are likely to stop working on your computers and devices still using Windows 7. This may create serious compatibility issues with other programs or tools you use. How Prevalent Is the Use of Windows 7? Despite facing its demise, Windows 7 continues to be amongst the most popular operating systems. As of February 2019, Windows held an 87.4 percent share of the OS market. In 2018, Windows 10 eclipsed Windows 7 as the most popular OS worldwide, with 39.2 percent compared to 36.9 percent. In an attempt to speed along adoption of Windows 10, Microsoft had given away the newer OS for free in recent years, though that program has now expired. In one of the company’s most recent Windows 7 releases, Microsoft has included a reminder encouraging people to switch.

How Can I Address the Windows 7 End of Life? The best thing you can do is to plan to upgrade to Windows 10 as soon. Here at PChelp4U, we can make this process easy and hassle free for you. If you call us on the below numbers or email us at support@pc-help-4u.co.uk, we will be more than glad to help. We will come out to you, assess your computer, decide on whether an upgrade to Windows 10 or a new computer is the most cost effective long-term solution for you, and deal with all the work for you without you having to leave the comfort of your armchair. If a new computer, be it a laptop of desktop, is decided upon, we supply the whole range with full manufacturer warranties. We will also pick your old computer up, transfer all your data and settings across to the new Windows 10 computer in the workshop, bring it back to your home, install and configure it and run through everything with you to ensure you're happy. All this is included within the fixed price that we give you.

GET THE LOOK T

New Year, New Kitchen – a look at 2020’s upcoming kitchen trends...

he excitement and excess of Christmas has died down, and the New Year brings a craving for rejuvenation. Restoration to our mind and body begin, and for many our homes too. So to kick-start 2020 with some home décor inspiration, we’ve put together three of the upcoming year’s most titillating trends to transform your kitchen. Marble Madness – Marble has never gone out of trend, it’s been a constant in luxurious interior design for thousands of years. However with the recent boom in marble décor, it’s become a far more accessible surface bringing a little bit of luxury to all our homes. In 2020 the busier and bolder the marble the better. Why not try a green marble like Verde Guatemala, or the heavily veined Calcutta Oro. And double your marble for real impact, imagine a marble worktop with matching floor tiles. For the red wine drinkers you could try a marble inspired quartz. A man-made, engineered material, which is less prone to staining but gives you the luxurious look of marble. Standout Sinks – Why can’t your sink be the focal point of your kitchen? In 2020 people will be replacing traditional farmhouse styles with natural stone sinks. Bring the outside in with an earthy toned soapstone, or create a rustic, unpolished feel with a granite sink paired with brass or copper taps. Some quartz companies are also offering sinks. It could match your kitchen worktop or be something completely different for a bold, show-stopping look. Many natural and engineered stones are ideal for sinks as they’re heat resistant and non-porous. They also don’t stain easily and are simple to clean. Dark Drama – Black cupboards were popular last year, but in 2020 the dark drama won’t stop there. Black is no longer an accent colour but a full theme. Matte black granite or slate worktops paired with black cabinetry, walls and dark flooring creates a luxurious and alluring space. For more information on how to get started updating your kitchen email Coulon Stone on info@coulonstone.com, call us on 01494 484333 or visit our showroom in Stokenchurch.
