Loo Foh Sang honed his printmaking skills in 1967 under Stanley William Hayter, widely recognised as the 'Father of Contemporary Printmaking', and was also the founder of the renowned printmaking workshop, Atelier 17, in Paris. Known as the Father of Malaysian Printmaking, Loo Foh Sang has had an expansive and remarkable career spanning five decades and counting. His works are collected by museums all over Europe and Asia including the Bibliotheque Nationale de Paris, Bibliotheque Royale de Belgique, Montreal Museum and Kuala Lumpur's National Visual Arts Gallery.

YIN YANG ENGRAVING + ETCHING + AQUATINT YIN YANG is a collection of Loo Foh Sang’s Prints from 1980 to 1985 during his Paris residence. For over 50 years, he has dedicated himself to developing the language of his art and to addressing certain limitations of traditional print methods. In the collection of works Loo Foh Sang developed in the Atelier, as evidenced in his late 1960s exhibition catalogue “Original Prints by Loo Foh Sang”, one can view a family of production emerging from working in the presence of S.W. Hayter. Hayter is known for his innovative work in the development of viscosity printing (a process that exploits varying viscosities of oilbased inks in laying three or more colours on a single intaglio plate). Following Hayter, who termed this as “simultaneous printing” Loo Foh Sang continued to produce and create innovative works.
