BOSTON OPERA COLLABORATIVE Opera Company in Residence “Come as a student, graduate as a professional.” At Longy, these words couldn’t be truer. Imagine working with a dynamic opera company while earning your degree; crafting a professional network before leaving school; using your education to launch your career. This year, Longy and Boston Opera Collaborative join forces in a newly redesigned partnership. BOC is now our first ever opera company-in-residence. What does this mean? In short: access. Professional workshops, coachings, and courses are around every corner, and embedded in your curriculum. You won’t perform in just one production or sing in one masterclass. You’ll develop lasting relationships with working singers and directors. You’ll collaborate with innovative composers and librettists. You’ll produce meaningful opera in unique and intimate ways.

Boston Opera Collaborative Artist Training (BOCAT) is a highlight of Longy’s Vocal Studies program. Led by Co-Artistic Directors Patricia Weinmann and Greg Smucker, this course prepares singers to be more expressive, compelling and confident performers. Through bi-weekly classes and individual coaching, students will develop techniques for successfully communicating action, thought and emotion through character and physical choices. Curriculum will cover audition techniques, aria analysis and coaching—developing the skills that can extend to learning an entire role.
