Selecting the right rug is kind of like buying the right pair of shoes; the look gets us interested, but you’re only willing to purchase if it’s comfortable, durable, and fits well.
It all starts with the right size. Too small or too large and a room is going to appear awkward no matter how good looking the rug. We’ve divided our size guide (on the following pages) into three of the most common rooms for rugs: living room, dining room, and bedroom. If you define the dimensions of the room and keep at least 12-18 inches of bare floor exposed around the rug’s edges, this guide works for any room in the house.
