DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Greetings all. Unplug and reconnect with family and friends in Lodi this summer! Recreation, leisure and sports activities play a vital role in our communities. There are many benefits to recreation such as improving the health and well-being of individuals. Taking part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can improve physical health and studies have shown that those who participate in park activities such as walking, hiking, swimming, playing tennis, etc., maintain healthier bodies, and have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Recreational activities also help manage stress by providing a chance to nurture oneself, create a sense of balance and self-esteem. There are social benefits too such as meeting new people and developing friendships, developing cooperation and teamwork. Summer kicks off with the Splash Bash over Memorial Day Weekend at Enze Pool, sponsored by the Brian M. Stocker Fund. Learning to swim is not only fun it’s lifesaving! Want to play a different sport? Lodi’s many parks offer bocce ball, pickleball, skate boarding, tennis, basketball, baseball, football, walking/hiking trails, swimming and much more. Be counted as part of the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson” on June 23rd. Register for session 1 swim lessons to be part of this life-saving, world-wide event. Plan a family fun day at Lodi Lake. Enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, walking trails, picnic grounds, a dog park area – all in our backyard. Prepare some potato salad, make a few sandwiches and cut up some watermelon and sit under the shaded structures at one of the many picnic grounds throughout town. Need to plan an activity at the park? Rent a picnic kit that could include ring toss, horseshoes and cornhole. Dance like no one’s watching at the Summer Music in the Park concert series at Hutchins Street Square West park, featuring food trucks and plenty of room to dance, held on the 4th Wednesday of the month, May, June, July and August. Are indoor concerts more your thing? Grab a ticket to the best seat in town. The Hutchins Street Square Concert Series kicks off with the Steep Canyon Rangers, Friday, May 27 followed by 80’s favorite, John Waite, Saturday, June 25th. Looking for activities for the kids? There are summer day camps just right for your child; sports camps, outdoor adventures, arts and science camps, and field trips to places like Discovery Kingdom and Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Come celebrate America July 3rd and 4th with a free concert at Hutchins Street Square and fireworks at Lodi Lake. Challenge yourself to 31 days of parks and recreation during July as we celebrate Park and Recreation Month: We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation.” More exciting news to follow!
