Nutley shares info on discount programs for property tax relief

The commissioner of Nutley’s Department of Revenue and Finance recently shared information advising residents of several discount property tax programs that are available from the State of New Jersey.

“Every year, many people take advantage of these programs to help lower their taxes,” said Commissioner Thomas J. Evans. “We encourage all of our residents to investigate each program to see if they are eligible. Every little bit helps.”

The state currently offers the following programs:

• Senior Freeze: This property tax relief program will reimburse residents for any property tax increases experienced once they are in the program. Residents will get the difference between their base year, or first year of eligibility, property tax amount and the current year property tax amount, as long as the current year is higher than the base year and the resident meets all other eligibility requirements, which includes a joint income less than $150,000.

• ANCHOR Program (formerly Homestead Benefit Program): This program provides property tax relief to New Jersey residents who own or rent property in New Jersey as their principal residence and meet certain income limits.
