Camira Friends and Neighbours update

by Pat Quickfall

Our guest speaker for the month of February which was on February 5th was Helen Rattenbury, who talked about how to recycle plastic bottles and also how to care for our plants and fertilise the garden. She also brought some plants with her which we could purchase. It was a very interesting morning and now we know what to do - don’t throw anything away which you can recycle. On February 12th members had an enjoyable morning with a lovely morning tea. February 19th was Show and Tell, which proved to be another interesting morning. Gail Monroe talked about collecting tabs of aluminiun cans for the Ronald McDonald House which many of her friends also collect for her. Every kilo of tabs is worth one dollar and with approximately 3000 tabs to a Kilo thats a lot of tabs to collect! Over the years, $1M has been raised for this great cause. February 26th was our bus trip to the Brisbane Airport which was another good day. We left Camira about 8am and stopped at Mt Cootha for morning tea then back on the bus to the airport. We met up with a young lady Jacinta who showed around the airport which was very interesting. Our next stop was the Transit Centre for lunch which was very nice, then we were back on the bus again before being dropped off at Bretts Wharf where we hopped on the City Cat for a ride down the Brisbane. We alighted at Toowong, from where we then made our way home. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Our sound system is coming along nicely and should be up and running soon. We have also had a few new members join us welcome and we hope you enjoy the wonderful friendly club. Anyone interested can call Pat on 3818 9343.

New Bunnings store at Springfield central Springfield based Councillor David Morrison said Council’s approval of Bunnings at Springfield Central means the hardware shopper will be the winner. To have two major hardware stores as neighbours means they will both be aggressively competing for the same customers which hopefully results in lower prices and great customer service. With Masters having 12 000m2 undercover and the proposed Bunnings approved for 16 000m2, resulting in 28 000m2 of retail hardware. Cr David Morrison said that 2014 will be another exciting and historical year for the Greater Springfield Area. Bunnings new Springfield Central Store has approval to include retail warehouse, timber and trade supplies, garden centre, on-site café and a charitable fundraising and community service BBQ area.
