CHURCH
In the Christian world we have just celebrated Pentecost, which is considered the birthday of the church, but more importantly it was the arrival of the promised Holy Spirit to empower the church to be witnesses and to continue the work of Jesus in the world. Just imagine, it has been an emotional rollercoaster ride for the disciples over the last 50 days or so; Their leader, their Messiah had been crucified, all was lost, hope had gone, they had no clue that He would rise again, from devastation to elation as they saw Him standing in front of them again. Over the next 40 days Jesus spent time with them again, talking to them about the Kingdom of God, everything back to normal, or maybe so they thought. Then He left them, He ascended, Jesus rose from the earth and was taken up into the heavens out of sight. It took a couple of angels to wake them from the fixation on the sky, searching for one last glimpse. But Jesus had not left without a promise, that the comforter, truth revealer, the power to witness and testify was coming, He the Holy Spirit was on His way, but they had to wait for Him. How long did they have to wait? We know, probably about 10 days, but they didn’t know this as they gathered up in the upper room to pray, a band of 120 people of all ages, waiting. What was going through their minds? what were they feeling? What was going to happen next? How were they going to go back to normal? These are familiar questions, aren’t they? We have been asking these very questions ourselves? In this time of covid, we have been wandering the same things; How long? What’s next? What’s it going to look like going back? We are in a waiting time, waiting for all restrictions to be lifted, so we can go back to normal. But the thing is, normal was never going to be an option for these gathered individuals, He was coming, the Holy Spirit was on His way, and they would never be the same again. The adventure was about to start, the birth of the church was here, the world was about to be turned upside down by the arrival of the Holy Spirit. Are you waiting to go back to normal, or going forward into a new supernatural normal, responding to the call of the Holy Spirit who calls us all to follow Jesus into a new supernatural adventure?

A lovely review from a family:
“From the moment I first made contact Sonia & Tony could not have been more caring, compassionate & kind. They guided me through arrangements for my brother’s funeral. Treated myself & family with so much care. On the day of the funeral, I felt like they wrapped me in cotton wool & gently held my hand to give me the strength I needed. Everything was professional yet personal which was just perfect. Nothing has been too much trouble & they went above & beyond in so many ways whilst providing a five-star service but at a cost that was so affordable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for our family”.

July is a month to give plenty of TLC to your garden to keep it at its peak. If you are going away (even if ‘away’ this year is a short UK break), it is good to have plans in place so your garden is kept in good condition for your return. Here, we offer advice on a few gardening jobs you can do this month plus tips from our Hillier experts to keep your garden at its best.
What to Plant Now
Our Garden Centres are full of beautiful seasonal plants that can bring instant impact and summer colour, from summer-flowering clematis to delphiniums, dahlias, echinacea and salvias. This is also a good month to plant early autumnflowering perennials, like Japanese anemone, aster, rudbeckia, sedum plus later-flowering shrubs, such as hardy fuchsia and Hydrangea paniculata varieties. There is still time to plant up hanging baskets for extra summer colour Hillier tip: Be sure to water newly planted gardens often, particularly in the warmer summer months.
Garden Care
Keep weeds at bay with a ‘little and often’ approach; spend a few minutes each week to remove weeds from borders and containers. Think about your watering routine. Containers in particular may want regularly watering as warm weather and wind can quickly dry soil Hillier tip: Always make sure you water at the base of the plant so it reaches the roots. When watering, let the water sink down into the soil then repeat two or three times until the water no longer goes down quickly. If you hoe around plants, water will penetrate where it’s needed instead of running off Install a water butt if space allows to collect and recycle rainwater over the coming year On warmer days, open greenhouse vents and doors to keep it cool and ventilated and to prevent disease and fungus problems
Lawn Care
Regularly mow your lawn. Cutting the grass too short will strip it of vital moisture and nutrients, so if possible, keep your blade setting high. Apply a high-nitrogen lawn feed such as Aftercut Ultra Green to keep grass lush and thick Find more inspiration and expert advice for your garden at hillier.co.uk/garden-and-home-ideas
