KNOTT 3.5 TON TANDEM TRAILER BRAKING SYSTEM TK8KNOTT
• Robust braking solution • Widely used in Europe and is designed and manufactured in Germany.
SIMPLE & COST EFFECTIVE: This system is fully approved by the NZTA and is an excellent, simple, cost effective alternative to the commonly used electronic over hydraulic braking system for 3.5 ton trailers. The simplicity of the system sees no requirement for in-cab controllers, electrics or separate battery to operate it. The heavy duty cast coupling has a gas strut attached to a lug which is in turn attached to a M10 threaded rod. This threaded rod is attached to a balance bar assembly on the front axle which the brake cables are attached to. When the tow vehicle brakes, a proportionate amount of the braking energy is transferred through the coupling gas strut which pulls the threaded rod forward engaging the drum brakes.

TECH TOPIC WHAT IS ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT? Anti-Seize lubricants or compounds are used are used to help prevent Rust, Bi-Metallic Corrosion or Galling between two metals, most commonly bolts, fasteners and flanges by adding a layer of lubricant and inert base material. AntiSeize will not cure, this reduces the risk of damage during installation and disassembly helping to save time and money. A bolt or fastener lubricated with the correct anti-seize will develop a greater clamp load and achieve greater uniformity of torque among a series of bolts.

Galling is wear caused by excessive friction between two surfaces. This can cause small particles to peel away from the surface and bind up. In the worst case a thread will completely seize this is called cold wielding.

Selecting the correct product is important. First you need to know the type of metal you are using it on? And the environment it is being used in i.e., is it high temperature or exposed to salt water or other chemicals?
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT BASES? Available are Copper, Nickel, Silver, these are the commonly found product in our transport and automotive industry, but other options include Zinc, Moly and Non-metallic based products. Copper – A very good general purpose anti-seize that works in cold to very hot temperatures (-29 to 980 C°). Perfect for bolts on trucks and earthmoving equipment. Can be used on any ferrous or non-ferrous metal surface. Nickel – For use in extremely high temperatures (-54 to 1315 C°) or applications where contact with acids, ammonia. Ideal for use with Stainless Steel. Silver – A great product for use in areas that could be in contact with water also recommended for jet engines and industrial turbines as well as being resistant to chemical. High temperature range (-55 to 870 C°).
