he 10th Annual Boat Show at the Creek is hosted by Mosquito Creek Marina, located on Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumix (Squamish Nation) territory.
The Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumix has existed and prospered within our traditional territory since time immemorial. The Skwxwú7mesh Stelmexw (Squamish People) continue to reside in the area now described as the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. The largest proportion of Nation members reside on several urban reserves in the cities of Vancouver, North and West Vancouver, and the municipality of Squamish, B.C. Mosquito Creek Marina has been owned and operated by the Squamish Nation since 1963. The Nation also owns and operates The Lynnwood Marina and MarinaSide Grill restaurant in North Vancouver, and The New Brighton Marina on Gambier Island. Innovation is the trademark of the Squamish Nation Marine Group which proudly offers the Spirit Trail Ocean Homes & Luxury Yacht Homes, Aluminum-clad Boathouses, and state-of-the-art Custom Concrete Docks.

From the inception of the show in 2006, we have set goals and strive to bring something new and exciting every year. We have grown to become Western Canada’s Largest Floating Boat Show and our prime location offers the best venue for Vancouver’s Premier Boat Show in the fall. The development and continued success we see as each year passes is owed to the partnerships and support received from the brokers, vendors and sponsors. The Big Ten Yacht Brokers keep the crowds in awe by displaying some of the best yachts available in today’s market. The brokers agree unanimously that Boat Show at The Creek is a buyers’ show, with more sales and connections made than any other shows they attend. Our exhibitors have been integral in ensuring that the show is bigger and better than ever. Their tireless support helps us reach a larger audience and put on a more exciting show each time September rolls around. Boat Show 2016 • 2

It takes a village to plan a boat show, and I couldn’t possibly thank the crew at The Creek Marine enough for their tireless efforts. Heather Spence, Shawna Baker, and Zena Ariwirawan in the Mosquito Creek Marina office are in constant contact with everyone. Operations manager Quinn
Schneider and lift master Michael Nahanee along with the rest of the crew move hundreds of vessels and displays into the show - and back out four days later - with the speed and finesse of a well-oiled machine. They pull off this monumental task year after year, taking whatever comes at them and thinking on their feet to ensure that everyone involved experiences a safe and stress-free boat show. The Squamish people have a long standing tradition of welcoming visitors to their territory. The First Nation singers, drummers, and dancers will join us for the 10th year in a row, filling the air with traditional music to welcome show-goers. I would also like to thank Northshore Yachtworks for sponsoring our Hospitality Tent. Come and enjoy snacks and refreshments courtesy of Northshore Yachtworks. Located right here at The Creek Marina, Northshore Yachtworks also hosts the Boatyard Sale this year alongside the Boat Show. between the Squamish Nation and the City of North Vancouver, will soon be completed with the addition of a partially submerged tunnel under the travel lift and a pedestrian bridge at The Creek Marina. On the Spirit Trail, east of the marina, is the Trans-Canada pavilion carved by Coast Salish artist Darren Yelton and adorned with traditional First Nation symbols of peace and friendship, the K’ay’achtn’s (Greeting Figures) to welcome you to their sacred area. Whether this is your first or tenth visit to the show, I’d like to offer our greetings and invite you to experience our First Nation’s hospitality. The Skwxwú7mesh Stelmexw (Squamish People) believe that harvesting nature’s gifts and using them for shelter, warmth, sustenance and beauty requires specialized skills bestowed by the creator. Chatwilh (canoe builders) carved a range of canoes, some of them big enough, up to 45 feet in length, and sturdy enough, to withstand the rough ocean waters of the Howe Sound and Georgia Strait. There will also be singers, drummers, and dancers performing opening ceremonies each day.

It has been through partnerships, many lasting for generations, that our culture has remained rich and resilient. SPIRIT TRAIL EXPANSION
Working in tandem with the City of North Vancouver, the Spirit Trail Expansion has been an exciting project for us. Not only will the trail go through the marina and connect with the new Bewicke Avenue upgrade, but it will tie the entire North Vancouver shoreline together, thus creating new pedestrian opportunities ranging from dining out to new retail shops. One of the unique features of the trail is that it will go underneath the travel lift. That’s right, underneath! Our travel lift gantry will be rebuilt to be much wider which will allow us to lift much larger boats. Our investment in a larger capacity lift will allow us to serve more yacht own-
