Gavin’s Gabble Take a LOOK! Happy New Year La-Miss-Tenn! I hope everyone had a great fall semester and is ready for the spring! To all of our graduates, Congratulations!!! I wish you much luck and success in your future endeavors and don't forget to serve! So, for a bit of business. Your district board has been up to a few things: We had a great district board and cabinet retreat in Gulfport with Mr. Dennis and Ms. Ame on December 19! During our board meeting we hashed the details of our 50th District Convention; this is a weekend you don’t want to miss! Also, the board has purchased an A.E.D., so we continue to challenge the District to raise funds to purchase another. The club that raises the most funds will be able to select a school of its choice to install the A.E.D. Also, members of the board will be cutting their hair for Locks of Love to further this initiative. Your lieutenant governors have been planning great things for divi-

sional rallies. At our last meeting, all rally dates were finalized. Not only with rallies, but the board has been working with Kayla Dowling, our Conventions Director to plan a great 50th Annual Louisiana-MississippiWest Tennessee District Convention. The programming this year is a bit different and will feature more activities that YOU have been anxiously awaiting! I’ll leave the rest of DCON for Kayla to discuss! Please keep up with service hours! We are about halfway to meeting the goal of 4800 hours by March 31. Also, let’s get some new members this semester. We have set a goal to reach 250 members. I challenge each club to recruit 10 new members by DCON! This will increase our membership, with 80 additional members, by 32%. I’m sure that we can all reach these two goals by District Convention! See you at your rallies and District Convention!

Delta Central’s Shining Stars Considering the performances of the Millsaps College Circle K'ers this past semester, I would have to say that I would not do this article justice if I only mentioned one person. So, I will mention five. First of all, I want to recognize our secretary Anh Giang. Anh has done an amazing job as secretary. She has always turned in her paper work and monthly reports in on time, and she has always accomplished the tasks of which Millsaps’ Circle K has asked her to perform. Millsaps Circle K truly would not function without her. Secondly, I would like to recognize Teal Brechtel and Sharon Yoo

whose dedication to service projects throughout the year has been truly impressive. Sharon has always been willing to lend a hand, especially in times when I thought no one would be there. Teal truly showed the makings of a club president in her activism with Shack-a-Thon and the awareness week, and I am truly grateful to her. I would also like to recognize our club president Niki Agho for a job well done. She has always been willing to help with various tasks that we as a club need to have done, and she has truly done a great job in coordinating the Angel Tree project. It truly has been a huge success, and many children who might not have had

the opportunity to open gifts on Christmas had that opportunity to have something to open this Christmas. Finally, I would like to recognize Lissa McManus for her great support with Up 'til Dawn. She has always been on time for meetings, and she has always performed her tasks diligently and with a smile on her face. I am truly honored to serve alongside these fine members.

I know that it is hard to imagine CKI as a career tool, but picture this: You walk into a job or internship interview, and you are crazy nervous. You think you’re going to say the wrong thing or not be qualified enough for the job. Your scary interviewer peruses your resume, and then asks you about your experience in Circle K. Turns out, he’s a Kiwanian. SHPLAM! New job. Feels good, huh? (Good thing you were in CKI, because you probably weren’t qualified anyway.)

Are You a Fish Looking for a Net? I know it can get really difficult to keep up with doing this kind of stuff on top of balancing a family, academics, a job, and a social life. Believe me – I have to do it too. But I think the great thing about this organization is that it can become all of those things at once.

World-rocking Scenario #2: You are reluctantly dragged to a Kiwanis meeting with a fellow CKIer because they need to gain some brownie points for that scholarship application (which is, coincidently, available to ALL CKI members). You are seated next to a lovely gentleman who, after chatting casually about the fantastic ranch dressing that comes with the awesome meal you are eating (completely gratis, by the way), tells you that he used to be a department head of that oh-so-hardto-get-into grad school you have been drooling over since you chose your major. What’s that called again? Oh yeah – NETWORKING!

communicate with a different crowd, try a Kiwanian on for size. You may think you won’t be able to relate to them, or they won’t understand what job hunting in today’s world is like. But most of the time, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
