Bishop starts new parish Bishop Michael Olson of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth established a new parish for southeastern Denton County on Monday. The St. Martin de Porres Parish will serve the communities of Little Elm, Frisco and Prosper. The Rev. Richard Kirkham was appointed its first pastor. Officials with the diocese said they anticipate establishing more parishes in fast-growing Denton County and greater Fort Worth to serve Catholics who

are part of that growth. In 2012, the last time a new parish was established, the diocese named St. John Paul II Parish to serve central Denton and its university communities. St. Martin de Porres Parish is generally bounded on the north by Black Jack Road, on the east by the Collin/Denton county lines, on the south by Lebanon Road and by Lewisville Lake on the west. English Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at Pu-

refoy Elementary School, 11880 Teel Parkway in Frisco. The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth has purchased property along U.S. Highway 380 in Prosper for a permanent facility. St. Martin de Porres was born in 1579 in Lima, Peru. He became a lay brother at the Dominican Friary at Lima. He desired a foreign mission, but he remained in Lima his entire life. He died Nov. 3, 1639, and was canonized on May 6, 1962. — Staff report
