Interior Architecture + Design
About Me Hey there, I’m Lauren. I am currently a student attending collage for Interior Architecture + Design at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. When I’m not working on projects for school, you can find me hiking mountains in Maine and New Hampshire or curling up in a blanket with my dogs and watching Netflix. The one thing I can’t leave home without is my laptop. If I’m not at home, I’m usually out and about. So, bringing my laptop with me always allows me to continue working and enjoy what I do most, which of course is designing and re-visioning interiors. I am currently working towards the future where I can pursue my dream of one day owning my own interior design firm.

The café Metamorphosis was made to focus on the problem of youth gang violence and involvement in Boston. The Cafe will also be involved with the Boston Reentry Initiative who is partners with Youth Options Unlimited a program that works with ages 16-24 who are court-involved or gang-affiliated to provide jobs and a safe place for them. The space for Metamorphosis on the ground level will have a cleansing juice café and on the lower level there will be a yoga studio; that the youth from these programs can work at. The yoga studio will have daily activities like yoga classes and meditation classes that customers as well as workers can attend. The decision to have a cleansing juice café and a yoga studio has to do with the similarities of the process that a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly, just like the reason why people go to yoga or juice cleansing; to become someone new.
The concept for Metamorphosis will be focusing on a butterfly. The design for all of the spaces will include the focus on the process that it goes through from caterpillar to butterfly. There will be different patterns and colors just like the patterns and multitude of colors on the wings. Textures will also come into play to not only have visual patterns but textural patterns as well.

Celebration Loi Krathong
Many people around the world celebrate the full moon, but each way the moon is celebrated is unique in its own way. One of the unique celebrations that happens is Loi Krathong; a traditional Thai celebration of the full moon on 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. They celebrate this tradition by floating a krathong down the river; that they have made out of a banana tree trunk and banana leaves. My luminaire that I designed is based off of the krathong itself but with more of an abstract and modern look. The luminaire has wood veneer leaves on the top and leaves on the bottom; the leaves on the bottom are there to represent the reflections of the krathong in the water. Just like people creating their own krathong, the luminaire will also be available for customization of the way the wood veneer leaves are placed. They will also be offered in three different colors of wood veneer; a maple, walnut, and dark green; with two different finishes sliver and gold. The luminaire will come in three different sizes, so it will be available for hospitality and residential spaces.

Detail Drawings The concept for the Burt’s Bees pop-up shop is how the natural hive of a honey bee looks like in the wild. I plan on incorporating the honey comb and the linear look of the hive itself into the design process of the pop-up shop. Some of the things in the space that would mimic the look of the natural honey beehive, would be some of the tiles, displays, and lighting.

Bubble Drawings First Floor The concept for the Aerial View is the look of Boston’s streets from a birds eye view, including this view in patterns, art works, and unique features. Most of Boston’s streets are very different from any other city streets, there are more overlapping and crazy unlike New York’s streets which are much more of a linear grid pattern.

Concept Drawings The concept for the Mass Bite, which is a restaurant inside the Aerial View Hotel is the traffic patterns of Boston. The relationship of this concept to the hotel’s design is rather from a top down view of Boston, it takes a more personal look at the streets.
