Loren Liebermann RESUME
PROFILE
As an architecture student, I have been introduced to the social and environmental responsibilities that our profession holds. As designers, details are our greatest strength in designing environmentally conscientious buildings that still value visual aesthetics and functionality. My focus within architecture lies in the connection between people and place. Public space has the potential to promote meaningful interactions between occupants while increasing awareness of their surrounding environment.

THE ABARA INSTITUTE
El Paso, Texas Located along the United States and Mexico border is the Oñate Crossing site, land that once served thousands of people by means of traveling, military operation, and local flour mill. The Oñate Crossing site will transform into the Abara Hub, offering a revived space along the border that will join the greater communities of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. The Abara Hub will include the adapted reuse of the existing building on site, reconstruction of the historical path, reintroduction of native vegetation, and the addition of the pavilion. By revitalizing forgotten space and giving new life to the historical buildings, people will be attracted to the site through its amenities, shops, and resources. The circulation through the site transitions from the public south-end to the private north-end. The main area of the site can be broken down into the Pavilion, Oasis and Amphitheater, La Hacienda, Library and Community Center, and the Barracks. All which are connected by a reintroduction of the crossing path. Integrated environmental responses on the site include added shading devices, solar panels, and drought tolerant native vegetation. The space will become a place of opportunity through the resources provided on site. Collaborative studio project with Jessica Schuler and Alyssa Arnold. Drawings shown are individually developed.

COMMUNITY CENTER GARDEN DINING PATIO 3
The existing apartment building will be repurposed into an active community center for residents to hold classes, discussions and activities. Shading structures will be added to either side to midigate sunlight and heat.
The garden has raised garden plots for users to participate in growing their own foods in hopes of becoming more self sustained on the site.
The patio provides an integrated space for both visitors, employees and residents of the site to gather and enjoy local cuisine.
The existing playground will remain. However, new and additional shading pavilions will be added to allow users more protection from the sun.

SITE PLAN
The library has three main sections that each provide resources and internet access to users of the site. With a multi-lingual library and a contemplation-quiet study room, everyone is welcome here. 4

Barceloneta Park is positioned between the Ciutadella Park and the Barcelona seafront and among a dense neighborhood and significant hospital for the city. This active site will serve as a unifying destination for visitors from the neighboring areas with entry points into the park at each direction including a bridge from the Ciutadella Park. The proposed art school will be located on the Northern portion of the site and continue across the site to the South. The curved geometry of the building is fixed about existing vegetation and preexisting landmarks. The school is composed of two buildings connected to one another with a shaded pathway. Concaving and convexing geometries of the project stimulate a relationship between open and protected facades within the school. Circulation is free between exterior and interior environments creating a gradient of boundaries into classrooms and exhibition spaces. To promote a direct connection the plaza within the concave portion of the geometry, folding glass doors open along the facade to allow fresh air. CIUTADELLA PARK TO SEA - SITE PLAN 5

Resilience in New Orleans : A Sense of Place Through Architecture DISPLACEMENT Involuntary relocation of people due to unforeseen circumstances.
SENSE OF PLACE A geographical location where social, ecological and economic relationships occur.
CLIMATE CHANGE / NATURAL DISASTERS Natural occurrences that challenge the integrity of a region’s identity and willingness to rebuild.
RESILIENCY “The magnitude of disturbance a system can tolerate and still persist“ (Mamouni, 2014).
ECONOMIC INEQUALITY / DEVELOPMENT Large scale urban development that greatly changes the identity of a community, sometimes tied into gentrification.
MEMORY LANDSCAPE Memories begin to take shape through recognition of distinct ecological, geological, agricultural and urban changes in the landscape.
ADAPTIVE REUSE Reuse of existing infrastructure to help nurture the past, present and future identity of a community.
In order to address the food desert that occurs in the Holy Cross neighborhood, I propose to restore the Old Holy Cross School site and serve the neighborhood with community services and food cultivating amenities.
9
The renovation of the old school building will preserve sacred building components and allow for the new usage. The project will establish a sense of place through the recognition of history, recognition of the present and the resilience of the community for the future.

MATERIAL FABRICATION Development of General Geometry
The college of Architecture provides a wide range of hands on learning. For this exercise the assignment asked to develop a building module that could be repeated and create a wide range of patterns and structures. As an iterative process, the form was developed in Rhino, sent to the CNC router and then cast in a glass fiber reinforced concrete. Module Development
