r Warriors “seized the day” April 28-30 as more than 50 teens were part of Newsies, whether on stage or behind the scenes. In addition, several alum were involved, including director Kristina Meinel ‘06 [St. John, Jefferson] r At the Conference Art Show, held for the first time since 2019, eight Warriors’ artwork were among the 80 pieces displayed. Our own annual Art Show displayed portfolios of 28 senior artists. r At the WSMA State Festival April 29, 19 of our 24 entries were awarded a first. Students performed piano solos, duets and trios, barbershop quartet, musical theater, vocal and instrumental solos. Percussion Ensemble and Swing Choir earned firsts. r Brett Duwe (‘01) [St. John, Newville] was nominated and selected to join the prestigious American School Band Directors Association. He is in his 18th year of working with the Federation elementary bands as well as our Warrior Percussion Ensemble. r In May we celebrated School Lunch Hero Day, acknowledging the hard work of serving 1000s of meals to Warriors this year, adhering to strict federal nutrition guidelines, navigating student food allergies, adapting to supply chain issues—all with a smile. (Mrs. Sukow is retiring this spring, and Mrs. Arndt will step into the lead position.) r With a “Grand Ball” theme, prom senior court included Zachaery Zastrow [Trinity, Watertown], Marin Riesen, [St. Luke, Watertown], Japheth Yahnke [Trinity, Watertown], Marissa Duddeck [St. John, Cold Spring], William Miller [Cornerstone, Waterloo], Cheyenne Johnson, [Immanuel, Farmington], Dane McIlvain [St. Matthew, Janesville]; Madelyn Vanderhoof [Trinity, Watertown], Jack DePrey [Holy Cross, Madison], Grace Cody [St. John, Juneau] r We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week May 8-12. From breakfast to snacks to a hamburger bar and a food truck, the Warrior family stepped up to thank the dedicated LLHS faculty. r On May 10, the Academic Awards night honored scholarship recipients as well as students’ academic achievements. Inductees to National Honor Society and the Top Ten from the class of 2023 were honored. Read more: llhswarriorstories.wordpress.com r Badger State reps selected for the boys convention, at UW-Eau Claire June 11-17 are Kooper Mlsna [St. Paul, Lake Mills] and Sam Schmidt [Peace, Janesville]. The girls reps, at UW-Oshkosh June 18-23 are Kylie Roekle [St. Andrew, Middleton] and Maria Vik [St. Paul, Fort Atkinson]. r The National Honor Society car wash raised $508 for tornado victims. r Seniors Lily York [St. Matthew, Oconomowoc], Allen Lester [St. John, Waterloo], and Elizabeth Gunst [St. John, Juneau] earned their Wisconsin State FFA Degree. With 23,000 members in the state, only three percent earn this accomplishment. r Our new Cultural Awareness Club celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander Month in May through opportunities to learn about different Asian and Pacific Island countries, culminating in a morning for students and staff to sample authentic AAPI food and drinks.

r Signing ceremonial letters of intent to play D3 college sports were Marin Riesen for basketball at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Kendall Lemke [Immanuel, Farmington] and Jenna Shadoski [St. Matthew, Janesville] for softball at Concordia, Mequon, Trey Lauber [St. Paul, Lake Mills] for basketball at Martin Luther College, Reyna Rupnow [St. Matthew, Oconomowoc] softball at Lakeland.

r Baseball and softball teams spent a weekend at Martin Luther College. They practiced in the fieldhouse, visited campus, took part in team bonding, and worshiped on campus before heading home. MLC sports alum with Head Baseball Coach Randy Cox (LLHS ‘84) and Head Softball Coach Becca Doering (LL ‘16) r Cameron Weiland [Zion, Columbus], Mark Garcia [Bethany, Fort], Karsten Grundahl [Blackhawk, Madison], and Tyler Gresens [Peace, Sun Prairie] broke the school 4x800 relay record by .29 seconds, with a new time of 8:14.67. Grundahl also set a new school record in the 800m with a time of 1:55.38. r Senior softball player Jenna Shadoski will represent the Division 2/3 Green Team in the WFSCA All-Star game to be held June 13-14 in the Dells. Warrior coaches Matt Doering and Jim Birschbach will also coach Shadoski’s all-star team!
