A WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN As Llay Welfare chairman I’d like to welcome CPD Y Felinheli to our football club. I’ve been involved with the welfare when I started playing at 16 years old playing until I was 29, after some serious injuries and being self-employed I retired from the playing side but continued to help around the club. I became assistant manager before moving onto becoming the first team manager for 10 years while also being vice chairman of the football club, when stepping down as first team manager I then took on the role of chairman and I had this ambition of building a stadium at the welfare’ which is still ongoing, but I’m pleased to say we have one of the best set ups in the new league which makes me so proud of what we have achieved 32 years in total I have been involved and counting with this club. I aim to still be around when we celebrate 100 years in 2031. Keiron Fox 👍❤️🍺

MANAGERS NOTES

Well firstly we’d like to welcome back Y Felinheli to The Ring, who were only here a couple of weeks back. The lads that day were superb and we managed to come out victorious. However I’ve been doing this long enough now, to know now that this game is going to be the hardest game we have had this season. They’ll want to right their wrongs from the last trip so we need to be switched on and ready for a battle from the very start. If we do that I’m sure we’ll stand a very good chance of getting the positive result we need. Our form has been excellent of late and having taken 15 points out of the last 18 available, the confidence within the group is sky high, we’re scoring goals but worryingly we’re also still conceding far too many for my liking, we’re yet to keep a clean sheet in the league so that first one will come soon. Jack Edwards & Kian Turton are unavailable this week, so still not yet at full strength. Lastly the supporters of late have been tremendous, all I ask is that you keep backing all of our players as this squad is a squad game. Many thanks in football your gaffa Mike Gadie ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️ #UpTheWelly `

TODAYS OPPONENTS CPD Y FELINHELI Although the current club was only formed in 1977, there have been many teams in the village in the past. There is evidence of a team in the village in the 1890s and various teams during the 1920s and 30s.There’s a record of Port Dinorwic winning the Caernarfon & District League Alves Cup in 1945/46. All of the above team played their home games on a field within the Faenol Estate. Before the current club there was a team in the 1960’s that played in the Caernarfon & District League for two seasons, this club played on the same ground that the current club plays on. The current club was formed on the 3rd of July 1977 as Portdinorwic Football Club and entered the Caernarfon and District League. A year later the name was changed to Clwb Pel Droed Y Felinheli (Which is the name that is currently used). The club won the Caernarfon and District League in 1981/82 and 1982/83, and in 1983/84 they entered the newly formed Gwynedd League, of which they were the inaugural champions and got promoted to the Welsh Alliance League (The North Wales Coast League). In 1987/88 the club won their highest honours the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup, the club were finalist in the same competition in 1988/89 and 1989/90. In 1991/92 the club gained their highest league position of 2nd in the Welsh Alliance League, they also had their highest attendance of all time when approximately 600 people turned up at Cae Seilo to watch the end of season title decider against Llangefni Town. Also that season, the club were the Welsh League Alves Cup Winners against Nantlle Vale. In 1994/95 the club were relegated back to the Gwynedd League, where the club spent the next 6 seasons. During this period the club gained success in the Barritt Cup, in 2001 the club won the Gwynedd League, gaining promotion back to the Welsh Alliance League. After a relatively successful 1st season back with a top half finish, the 2nd season was not as impressive finishing at the foot of the table being relegated to the Gwynedd League. With a further relegation the next season to the Caernarfon District League. Over the next few years the club were runners up a few times along with back to back NWCFA Junior Cup titles in 2013 and 2014. In 2013/14 the club achieved the coveted League, Junior Cup and Llun Mewn Ffram treble achieving a promotion back to the Gwynedd League. After a short two season spell in the Gwynedd League the club gained promotion back into the FAW’s directly affiliated league system after winning the Gwynedd League and Cup double in the 2014/15 season

Last week we had a great win away at Mold under the lights, the game was contested brilliantly which both sides could’ve won. A great thundering header early in the first half from a corner was scored by Jack Edwards, set us on our way but credit to Mold they kept creating plenty of chances but couldn’t find the back of the net going in at half time 1-0 the Welfare. Both teams came out for the second half all guns blazing creating plenty of chances but both keepers and defences kept the score at 1-0 until the 89th min when Llay’s Jonny Taylor taking it around the keeper and slotting it away calmly making it 2-0. With 10 mins of added time Mold managed to pull one back but Llay hung on to gain the win. Big three points for the reserves let’s hope we can carry on from this win into our next game, who knows when that will be. Gareth Guesty.

THE RESERVE TEAM WOULD LIKE TO THANK WHITE FRIAS FOR THEIR NEW HOME KIT. 14 | P a g e

LLAY WELFARE (8) V’s St ASAPH CITY (1) With a host of first team regulars returning to the starting 11, The Welly started the brighter out of the two sides and instantly set out the traps. We pressed high and won the ball back setting Liam Hughes away down the right who placed a pin point low cross across the box leaving a simple job for the inform JT to slot home, 1-0 welfare after 90 seconds. It was pretty much one way traffic for the rest of the game, with JT securing his hat trick after 19 minutes (assisted again by Liam Hughes & Tom Wells) 3-0 welfare. Ryan Merrill added the fourth with a delightful header picked out by an Adam Davies corner, 4-0 welfare. Tom Wells scoring his 7th league goal with yet another Liam Hughes assist, who sits top of the assist chart with six, 5-0 Welfare. Andrew Booker replied for City just before half time with a sublime goal from deep inside our half, an exquisite strike from their best player on the day, 5-1 Welfare and HT. The second half seen yet more domination from the welfare and the chance to make changes with Lewis Bickerton replacing Jack Mountford for his first appearance in weeks. Another well worked goal sees JT score his fourth goal of the game and sees him joining Tom Wells on 7 league goals, 6-1 Welfare. With plenty of changes being introduced by us, this was the first opportunity the home crowd got to see of summer signing Jonathan Collo who replaced Tom Wells on the 70 minute mark, Collo who has had dreadful luck with injuries since joining from Lex got his first goal for the club in the 87th minute, 7-1 welfare. Collo finishing the game strongly and deservedly got his brace with a controlled shot and goal. 8-1 to ‘The Welfare’ Mom for the day Jonathan Taylor sponsored by Howdens & Xelec.

RHYDYMWYN (1) V’s LLAY WELFARE (2) An unchanged team travelled up the road to Rhydymwyn, both sides on the back of excellent result in their previous league games. We knew we were in for a difficult day as we came up against our old foes of the WNL, and last time the clubs met we were on the end of a defeat to Jordan Parry’s side. KO and Rhydymwyn probably had the better of us for the first 10 minutes with both sides a bit cagey in going forward. Jack Mountford started to get a handful of the midfield and seemed to be absolutely everywhere. We were creating plenty of opportunities down both flanks, however a break in play and some slack defending seen Nathan Mendoza race through & slot home against the oncoming Flower in goal. 1-0 to Rhydymwyn (23mins). After a nervy couple of minutes straight after conceding. The Welfare managed to regain control of the game, looking to equalise almost straight away with JT having a couple of bright moment but not being able to find the target. George Finlay & Dean Bryan were linking up constantly down the right and after yet more good work from them the welfare got a corner, the ball was sent into the box and the 2 nd ball dropped to skipper Dean Bryan who rattled the frame of the bar, JT at the backpost makes sure the ball hits the back of the net, however referee & linesman had already given the goal to the skipper. 1-1 game on. (HT) Halftime manager Mike Gadie makes a tactical change bringing the returning Ryan Goodband on for Ryan Merrill. The welly start the second half brightly, keeping the majority of possession, however Rhydymwyn defending with their lives. Goodband now partnering Jack Mountford in the midfield is starting to impose his passing abilities on the game. Ryan retrieves the ball deep in his own half and plays a delightful clip up the wing to the dangerous George Finlay, who races into space. JT is through if George can play the tightest of passes through two defenders, and with that George gets the assist of the season so far setting JT through against their oncoming keeper for him to slot home his 8 th league in as many games, 2-1 to the welfare (57 mins) and thoroughly deserved. More chances fall to the welfare, and the game should have been out of sight, but at 2-1 the game was still open. Rhydymwyn piled on the pressure late on and had a good chance right at the end to equalise but their effort was headed wide. FT whistle was blown in the 98th minute and The Welly win the game 2-1 taking 15 points out of our last 18, confidence sky high at the moment & well done lads.

Last weekend the Colts got another great win progressing to the next round of the League Cup beating Coedpoeth Reserves 4-1. Josh Venables broke the deadlock after 15 minutes with a header and his first goal for the Colts. The Colts went in at half time 1 nil up., 20 minutes into the second half Lewis Edwards found the back of the net with a well taken goal to give the Colts a two goal lead, 2 minutes later Euan Edwards scored his first goal of the season from a corner with a lovely volley into the side netting to put the Colts into a 3 nil lead. Coedpoeth didn’t give up without a fight and managed to claw a goal back in the 88th minute. The Colts then quickly responded in the 92nd minute when second half substitute Harley Floyd scored his first goal for the Colts. Rounding off a wonderful team performance and giving the Colts a 4-1 win to progress to the next round. The Colts are looking forward to the next round and hopefully bringing some silverware back to the Welfare. Well done from Ant and Chris.

A big thank you goes to our new kit sponsor Phil Carr Unique Rocks for sponsoring the Colts, The team are looking forward to playing in their new kit.
