LIVING HOPE NEWSLETTER

NOVEMBER 2018

This hardcopy, printed, newsletter may well come as a surprise to you. We last sent out a printed copy of a newsletter 3 years ago and have decided that it is time to do so again. Living Hope has 23 different programmes which we run in the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, South Africa. In our last financial year we were able to minister to 110 151 people, to whom we sought to Bring Hope and Break the Despair of Poverty, Disease and Addictions. Here some of the stories of how lives were changed… My life has changed from being a homeless criminal, living by intimidating people and being violent. I was a monster who would rob and instill terrible fear in people, particularly the elderly, even towards my own family in order to maintain my drug addiction. I have changed to someone who has found Jesus and forgiveness at Living Hope Recovery Programme. I still am amazed at what Jesus has done in my life. Now I am deacon in the church, a father and provider for my family having the wonderful blessing of twin boys. To God be all the glory and thank you Living Hope! (Anonymous Past Client) “My Life has changed by attending Living Hope Kid’s Clubs and then later Teen’s Clubs in the afternoons”, says Angel who attended the official opening of Living Hope’s new premises in Overcome. “Thanks to the impactful teaching of Life Skills Educators, I and my friends know that God loves and values us highly. These teachings help me to make the right choices when I face sexual and other temptations.”

“Through Living Hope’s Harvest Training Initiative programme my life has changed to be one with a more mature walk in Christ and a successful venture in business, making me equipped and confident to share and teach others in their life and faith” Daylan Myburgh (Harvest Training Initiative graduate) “My life changed in a matter of days when I was referred to Living Hope’s branch in Ocean View to care for my huge septic wounds. After a week of wonderful wound care my septic, necrotic and foul odour wound changed and started to heal completely. I am so grateful to Living Hope for the continued care and healing which I received” Joseph Daniels, patient at Ocean View

Angel, Teen at Living Hope’s Teen Club “My life has changed through the Support Group programme that Living Hope has introduced me to. I was given the necessary tools and skills to help me better my life as I was addicted to alcohol. Living Hope Support Group facilitators helped me to get through this addiction, encouraging and praying for me on a regular bases. I look at life through new eyes and I am so grateful for the change that has happened within me.” Ntombikayise Makhasi , Living Hope Support Group Facilitator

“My life has changed because of Living Hope…. without them I wouldn’t still be alive!” says Mr. Jean Crow, (not his real name) a long term homeless patient. “I have been admitted to Living Hope’s hospital more than 10 times in the past few years. Because of a chronic lung disease, I am very susceptible to infections and anytime I get slightly sick, even with a small cold, I often end up needing a lengthy stay in the hospital in order to recover. Living Hope Hospital is always there for me whenever I need it.” Jean always has a smile on his face, and we welcome him “home” each time that he needs our care.

The end of the year is approaching and it is the season for generosity. A significant slice of our income each year comes from our end of year giving. This year we are hoping to raise at least £ 63,000. You can help us reach this goal! I specifically want to invite you to like us on Facebook, to follow us in this giving season. We are going to run the #GivingTuesday campaign on 27 November, where we will be empowering you to “do” something for the communities we are serving together with you. Our goal is to reach £ 19,000 on the day. However, we know that many wait to give around Christmas and we are trusting to raise the balance of £ 44,000 during December. We rarely appeal this directly to you but are asking you to be part of creating more stories in 2019 of changed lives like the above. Perhaps you haven’t given in a while, then you are specially invited to be part of helping people find Hope and have the Despair of Poverty, Disease and Addictions Broken. For those of you who are regular givers, we thank you for your willingness to partner with the poor and needy of South Africa in a greater way at this time of year. In the next few weeks, we’ll tell you more about Living Hope’s end of year giving. We will be bringing you news about #Giving Tuesday and the December giving season. Do watch for us on social media and in your email inbox. For donations to Living Hope, please go to our Donate Tab on our website, www.livinghope.co.za and follow the easy steps. May you be blessed in wonderful ways as you give in this season of generosity. God bless you John V Thomas Chairperson: Living Hope Trust
